During the Mega Auction, the TATA WPL has made an official announcement related to the start and end of the next edition. You should get ready for the thrilling games, as the WPL is set to commence on 9 February.
1. What We Know About WPL 2026?
TATA Women's Premier League is all set to commence from 9 February. This tournament will be clashing with the T20 World Cup 2026, which is also being hosted in India. But it comes as the right occasion for the fans, as the T20 World Cup will keep them busy during the day, while the WPL during the night time.
The tournament was earlier set to be played in January but it has now been shifted to February. According to the official announcement, it will be hosted across two venues only, which includes Baroda and Mumbai. In Mumbai, the Dr DY Patil Stadium where India won the Women's World Cup as one of the places to host the games.
It has also been confirmed that the opener of the tournament will be taking place in Mumbai. And the finals of the same will be taking place on 5 March at Baroda. These are the only details of the tournament which have been revealed till now, as fans await to see which teams will be facing each other in the opening fixture of the tournament.
2. WPL 2025
The build of any tournament is typically created by its last season. And this is also the case with the Women's Premier League, as the tournament heads towards its 4th season. Mumbai Indians will be heading to the next edition as the defending champions, as they have also crowned themselves as the most successful teams in the tournament.

Out of the three editions of the tournament which have been played, Mumbai Indians have managed to win two titles. Following them is Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who have also won a title. They will now be aiming to secure another title win and level themselves with Mumbai Indians in the tournament history.
In the WPL 2025 edition, it was just a cut copy paste of the first edition of the tournament. Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals faced each other in the finals of the same, which was a re-watch for the fans. While Mumbai struggled in the game, their bowlers were able to help the team to script a comeback and win the game by 8 runs.

Mumbai was able to finish the season by winning their second title. And it was yet another heartbreak for Delhi Capitals, as the team has consistently made it to the tournament finals but never won the same. This has also forced them to make some serious changes in the squad for the next edition, on which they have also worked in the Mega Auction.
However, it should be noted that out of the three seasons played in the tournament, the defending champions have not been able to even reach the finals of the next season. Mumbai Indians won the first season but didn't reach the finals of the next. Royal Challengers Bengaluru won the second season but they also didn't reach the finals of the third. Now it is time for Mumbai Indians to either break this curse or continue the same.
