‌South Africa completed a 2-0 whitewash beating hosts India by 408 runs on the fifth and final day of the second Test in Guwahati on Wednesday. Starting the day at 27/2, the home side, after some initial resistance, were bowled out for a paltry 140 inside 64 overs in the second session at the Assam Cricket Assocaition Stadium.

Ravindra Jadeja stood out with a fighting half-century, while Sai Sudharsan blocked off 139 deliveries during his 14-run knock. Meanwhile, Simon Harmer was the wrecker-in-chief for  the Proteas with impressive figures of 6/37 as Keshav Maharaj chipped in with two scalps.

The fans were frustrated to see their side losing without giving a fight and was evident from their chanting against head coach Gautam Gambhir. As the team lined up near the boundary ropes for the post-match presentation ceremony, a bunch of fans raised their voice against the gaffer. With a person calling out Gambhir’s name, a chorus followed with words translating to Down! Down!

Pacer Mohammed Siraj was irked by the shouts as he requested the fans to keep quiet with fingers on his lips, while Sitanshu Kotak also joined in to shame the protester. The batting coach was quick to remind the fans about the services of Gambhir to the Indian cricket team as they slowly muted their protests.

Twitter was also not impressed with the side’s performance at home and was quick to point fingers at Gambhir.
