Venkatesh Iyer, one of the costliest IPL players was recently released by his franchise. Iyer spoke about his exclusion from the Kolkata Knight Riders, while being optimistic for the upcoming editions. He also criticised a specific rule in the IPL which prevents players from using their full potential.

The IPL retention has shocked the fans to a great extent. Kolkata Knight Riders will be entering the auction with the highest purse. But this didn't just come off easily, as the team had to let go of their key players. Some of them were easily done, while the others were also some by them.

For the next season, Kolkata Knight Riders has also released Venkatesh Iyer. He was bought by the team for 23.75 crores in the IPL Mega Auction. But releasing your Main player on whom you spent big bucks still remains a concern for all the fans. Recently, Venkatesh Iyer spoke about his exclusion from the team.

1. Iyer Speaks on His Exclusion

Venkatesh Iyer has been among the many other players who have been released by Kolkata Knight Riders. Several fans and analysts said that this move was done by the team to free up their purse to a great extent. Just by releasing Venky Iyer, to their purse.

Iyer also reacted to his release, saying,“For players like us, it's the opportunity to play in the IPL. It doesn't matter which team I play for. I will put my best foot forward. If I have to ask my heart, I would still want to play for KKR. I won one championship with KKR. I want to continue the legacy. I want to bring more glory to KKR. Because they have shown so much faith in me.”

He also expressed his desire to be a part of the team again for the next season. Since he was also not able to do well for the team last time, he could be able to repay them by doing well in the next edition. But the question also comes whether Kolkata Knight Riders will be going for Venkatesh Iyer or will he find another team.

To this, Venkatesh Iyer said,“If not KKR, then anywhere else. Everyone knows that wherever I go, I will look to give my best. Not just in terms of my batting or bowling, but also, I can contribute in terms of leadership and suggestions to the captain.”With this, he has now opened himself for leadership opportunities, and could be targeted by the teams who are looking forward to a new captain.

He also spoke about the impact player rule, which has given a huge impact to the all-rounders like him, Shivam Dube, and Nitish Kumar Reddy. Since the teams are eager to get an extra bowling option, this also reduces the chance for these players to get an opportunity to bowl. It should be noted that for the team in three seasons.

He said,“I’m an all-rounder, but the IPL’s Impact Player rule has reduced opportunities for part-time bowlers. With teams getting a sixth bowling option, players like Nitish Kumar Reddy, Shivam Dube, or me aren’t bowling much.”
