Ex-India Cricketer Slams Selectors, Demands Shami’s Inclusion.

India suffered a terrible loss against South Africa in the first Test at the Eden Gardens. Criticising the team for its loss, a former cricketer even called out the exclusion of Mohammed Shami. He wants the selectors to look into Shami too, with him playing his last Test in 2023.

The Indian team is reaching new lows in the Test format, as the turmoil continues. Even in its transition phase, the team has not been able to win Test matches at home. It continued with the Test series against South Africa, as the first match was lost by the Indian team by a

With this loss, every Test match will now be vital for the Indian team in the World Test Championship cycle. After this loss, the selectors have been called out by the former Indian cricketer, Saurav Ganguly. He talked about the issues which the team faced and even questioned the exclusion of Mohammed Shami from the Test side.

1. Ganguly Questions BCCI

Saurav Ganguly has previously been a part of the BCCI management, serving as the President from 2019 to 2022. Following this, he has not been a part of the BCCI lately, but watches the games and selection process closely. He was also disappointed with the team's loss against South Africa in the first Test.

He , “I am very fond of Gautam; he has done well in the 2011 and T20 World Cups. He will continue for a while, but he must play on good pitches in India. He must have faith in Bumrah, Siraj, and Shami. I think Shami deserves a place in this Test team. Shami and the spinners will win Tests for him.”

It has been a long time since this pace trio has played together for the Indian cricket team. They last played together under Rahul Dravid in the Men's World Cup 2023. All three of them were actively able to take wickets for the team, which helped India to reach the finals of the tournament.

Ganguly by saying, “Play on good wickets. I hope Gautam Gambhir is listening. He needs to take the wicket out of the game. Because if his batters aren’t putting up 350–400, he will not win Tests. That is the reason they won in England, because their batters put runs up on the board. He must play on good wickets. And trust his people. And win Tests in 5 days. Not in 3 days.”

2. Shami's Last Test Appearance

Mohammed Shami surely has been practicing for the team in the whites. But he has not been able to make it back to the Indian team in the longest format of the game. His last Test appearance for the Indian team also comes back in 2023, when India played against Australia at the Oval, in the World Test Championship final.

In the first innings of the game, Shami was able to take the wickets of Marnus Labuschagne and Cameron Green. While he didn't take many wickets, he had a great time at the Australian pitches and bowled the majority of the overs for the team. Even in the second innings of the game he finished with two wickets, taking 4 wickets in the

But since the final match of the World Test Championship, Shami has not been a part of the team in the Test format. He played in the 2023 World Cup, following which an injury had ruled him out of action for several months. Now, even after his comeback to the longest format of the game, he has not been picked by the selectors.

3. Shami's Ranji Dominance

When Shami was not picked in the team for the India tour of Australia, the BCCI selectors said fitness to be an issue. To this, Shami even responded by saying that fitness is not an issue. He was already playing for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy at that time, and said that if he can play four days,

Following this, Ajit Agarkar even said that the domestics will be playing a major role for Shami's comeback to the Indian team. And the Indian pacer gave his best at the domestics, playing for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy. In the first match against Uttarakhand, he was able to finish with 3 wickets in the first innings and 4 wickets in the

This form even continued for Mohammed Shami in the second match. This time he was able to take 8 wickets in the game against Gujarat, where he also took a five-wicket haul. Despite such great performances, he remains excluded from the Indian team in the Test format.
