IND vs SA | Twitter chuckles as Bavuma runs around Baraspara playing dumb charades to rule out follow-on

Decision-making in elite sports will forever remain a mystery to the average fan. While chaotic debates brewed in the cricket fraternity over whether South Africa should force India to follow-on in Guwahati, skipper Temba Bavuma needed just a couple rounds of dumb charades to arrive at a conclusion.

South Africa seized complete control of the second Test and the series on Day 3 at Baraspara Stadium in Guwahati as they bowled out India for a paltry 201 after having scored 489 themselves in the first innings. With a lead of 288 runs in hand and over two days of play remaining, there was little that could have gone wrong whether the Proteas chose to follow-on or not. Even so, Temba Bavuma found the most hilarious way to arrive at the decision while cameras chased him around the ground to capture him in the process.

Marco Jansen scalped Jasprit Bumrah in the 84th over to finish with 6/48 and wrap up India's effort with a little over half an hour remaining in the day's play. The umpires followed due process and walked up to skipper Bavuma asking whether his team wanted to follow-on, at which point he turned around and motioned to a couple of teammates asking if they wanted to bat again. Even though the forthcoming response was satisfying enough, Bavuma seemed to hesitatingly tell the umpires they would bat before asking them for two minutes and jogging off the field. The veteran made his way to the sight screens where he peered up at the balcony to coach Shukri Conrad and after another animated conversation which again involved no words, Bavuma waved back to the umpires to grasp their attention before signalling they would be batting again. However, he was not done yet showing off his acting chops as Bavuma next mimiced raising a bike's throttle to ask for the roller, before gesturing pushing downwards to communicate he wanted the light roller.

Twitterati could not be more amused.
