Ahead of the IPL auction, teams are looking forward to the list of players they should target. But there are a few teams which are completely different from the others. They are different because they are preparing who will be their new buyers for the of the tournament.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru had been the team which was first put for sale. Their owners Diageo wanted to sell the team for a long time and now they have finally done the same. But there is another team which has been reportedly put up for sale. And this team is none other than Rajasthan Royals, who are also looking for new owners.
1. Rajasthan Royals on Sale
Rajasthan Royals has now also entered the list of teams who are looking forward to having a new owner before the next season. But Harsh Goenka, who is the brother of Sanjiv Goenka, informed the fans about the same. He said that it is not just RCB which is being up for sale, even RR is finding new owners. With the 2008 IPL champions being put for sale, they would be requiring for the team in terms of cash.
Harsh Goenka tweeted by saying, “I hear, not one, but two IPL teams are now up for sale- RCB and RR. It seems clear that people want to cash in the rich valuations today. So two teams for sale and 4/5 possible buyers! Who will be the successful buyers- will it be from Pune, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Bengaluru or USA?”
2. Tensions Within RR Management
Over the past few months, Rajasthan Royals have been making it to the headlines. Since the IPL 2025 season, it has been reported that the team is having issues with its management. Sanju Samson, their former captain, was spotted being excluded from the team discussions. Later, Samson that he wants to leave the team before the next season.
But there have been more shocking developments to the team lately. Rahul Dravid was appointed as their Head Coach after the T20 World Cup 2024. Fans expected it to be a happy reunion for Rahul Dravid and the team but that didn't happen. Within a year of coaching the team, Dravid announced that he has stepped down from the post of a Head Coach.
It should also be noted that Dravid had stepped down after the rumours of Sanju Samson having a rift with the management came to the internet. Following the departure of Rahul Dravid, it was also reported that the team's Head of Marketing has also resigned from his post. The troubled times had for Rajasthan Royals.
Along with that, the team's CEO, Jake Lush McCrum has stepped down from his post. He has also parted ways with the team, after joining them back in 2021. This was seen by the fans when McCrum was not a part of the team's auction table for the SA20. Thus, it was clear that something is off within the team's management.
3. Trade Moves
Rajasthan Royals decided to make some trade moves which could help them to get some relief from all the recent developments. The team knew Sanju Samson was in demand, and Chennai Super Kings came as the frontrunners for the same. And they decided to take advantage of this deal to a great extent. Both teams agreed to have a swap deal, and Rajasthan Royals made their demands. The team demanded Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran in place of Sanju Samson. Following the talks and meeting, both teams agreed on the deal and it was eventually finalised. On the retention day, both teams announced that the deals have been finalised, with RR getting Jadeja and Curran.
