He continues to give a statement to the selectors with his performances in the domestic format. In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Prithvi Shaw smashed a magnificent half-century against Hyderabad, letting his bat do the talking. But the question is, what Prithvi needs to do more to get his name back in the Indian team?

1. Shaw’s Impressive SMAT Start

The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy has just started, and Prithvi Shaw is leading Maharashtra in this tournament. In the team's second clash against Hyderabad, Prithvi Shaw announced his comeback to the shortest format of the game. Hyderabad was batting first in this game as the team 191 runs with the loss of 8 wickets.

The target was huge, but the intent being held by Maharashtra was even better. Opening for the team, Prithvi Shaw led the chase from the front. He went on to score 66 runs for the team in 36 balls with 6 fours and 3 sixes, which helped Maharashtra to win the game by 8 wickets. Although he was not able to stick till the end, Shaw proved his worth with ease.

2. Ranji Trophy Comeback

Prithvi Shaw has not just announced his comeback in the T20 format, he is also working hard for his Test comeback. He was once a part of the Indian team in the Test format, and even averages above 40 in this format. But he has been excluded from the line-up since 2021, and waits for a way to get his name back in the team.

He is doing everything possible for the same, as his comeback begins with Ranji Trophy. Although the Ranji Trophy 2025/26 edition is currently on a break, Prithvi Shaw has announced his comeback in style. Shaw started off the tournament well by smashing a half-century against Kerala in the first game of the season, in a draw.

Maharashtra played its second game of the tournament against Chandigarh. And this was also the right time for Prithvi Shaw to make a statement. He went on to score a massive total of 222 runs off just 156 balls, which helped Maharashtra to easily dominate Chandigarh and win the game. Later on in the match against Karnataka also, Shaw was able to smash for the team.

This shows that Prithvi Shaw has managed to score runs consistently for his team across different formats of the game. With the IPL auction now coming close, he will be eager to make his mark in the same and his form has surely made him go noticed by several IPL teams.

3. International Career

The international career of Prithvi Shaw has been short-lived. He made his debut for the Indian team in the Test format back in 2018. During the West Indies tour of India, Shaw finally made his debut at a young age, and played his first game on the Indian soil. He also scripted history in the game, by smashing a century in his maiden Test match.

Shaw went on to score 134 runs in the first innings of the game, followed by a half-century in the second Test. This had helped Prithvi Shaw to quickly make it to the headlines, as he remained eager to mark his spot in the Indian cricket team. Having some great performances at home, he also played a few games  countries.

And that didn't turn out well for the youngster. He was able to smash a half-century in the Test series in New Zealand. But the series against Australia came out to be one of his last before being dropped. He scored just 4 runs in the only game he played in Australia, and has not been picked in the Indian team since then.
