Kaif Weighs In on the Controversial Exclusion of Sai Sudharsan.

The Indian team made a shocking decision by ruling out Sai Sudharsan from the playing XI. He was replaced by Washington Sundar, who comes at his spot to bat at number three. This exclusion was questioned by veteran Indian player, Mohammad Kaif.

The two match Test series between India and South Africa has officially started. India held the upper hand on the first day of the first Test. The team first bowled out South Africa for just 159 runs, as Bumrah took a five wicket haul. Eventually, in its first innings,  to score 37/1, after 20 overs.

But fans saw a huge change in the team during the first Test. Sai Sudharsan was not a part of the playing XI, and in his place, Washington Sundar was made available for the number three spot. This has put the selectors under question, as it was a major move which no one could have expected.

1. Kaif on Exclusion

Mohammad Kaif, the former Indian player, recently spoke about the exclusion of Sai Sudharsan from the team. He talked about Sudharsan’s recent form, which has been valuable for the team lately. And at the same time, why he was dropped from the playing XI allowing India to go with 4 spinners.

Kaif , “The decision to drop 24-year-old Sai Sudarshan after his 87 in the last Test is puzzling. We were told Rohit Sharma was replaced as captain because of his age now the team management shows no patience with a youngster. Confusing signals are not good for the dressing room.”

He talked about the reason why Rohit Sharma was removed as the skipper of the team. The Hitman had already retired from T20Is and Tests, and remained the team's captain in the ODI format. But the selectors reportedly told his age as a concern, due to which he was removed as the ODI captain.

At the same time, it should be noted that Sai Sudharsan is just 24 years old. Even in his short Test career, he has been a lot promising for the Indian team. Kaif also said that the team management has shown no patience when it comes to youngsters, taking a jibe at the selectors for dropping Sai Sudharsan.

After having a successful outing in IPL 2025, Sai Sudharsan was able to take a number of awards with him. This also helped Sudharsan to receive his maiden call up for the Indian team, when he was selected to play against England.
