Ashes | Twitter reacts as Stokes' enraged outburst leaves Archer unimpressed after scalping five

If Ben Stokes thinks something he says it, and sometimes it ruffles feathers. His teammates aren't safe from it either, as was apparent on Day 2 of the Adelaide Ashes Test where Jofra Archer was rewarded for keeping England alive in the Test by a furious rant from his skipper that left him sneering.

Jofra Archer returned brilliant figures of 5/53 while his compatriots struggled in the third Ashes Test at Adelaide Oval

Australia piled the misery on England early on Day 2 as they improved their overnight score of 326/8 to 371 with a flurry of boundaries from Mitchell Starc's bat, the southpaw extending his series of a lifetime with yet another half-century. It was a continuation of the trend from the previous day as Will Jacks and Brydon Carse went at well over five while Josh Tongue's economy read a somber four too, with Jofra Archer and Ben Stokes the only bowlers who managed to maintin some modicum of discipline through long and weary spells. The former was particularly instrumental in crippling the hosts as he delivered the first breakthrough with Jake Weatherald's wicket before scalping Marnus Labuschagne and Cameron Green in the first over after Lunch on Day 1. It was him again who sounded Starc the death rattle to end a rapid passage of play, but the effort was not enough still to impress his skipper.

After being taken for two fours in the first over of the day and another as soon as he came on to bowl his second, Archer switched from bumpers to targetting the stumps and reaped immediate results. Starc tried to get his bat on but the ball seamed in with the angle to crash into the leg stump and send him packing for a resplendent 54. The team quickly huddled in celebration with smiles and laughs all around, none louder and wider than Archer. That is, until Stokes arrived on the scene. The captain got a hold of his quick and rained down on him with passion, repeatedly asking him to "bowl at the stumps." Archer seemed to take it lightly at first but within moments was left flabbergasted, his hands flayed and face wearing shock. Eventually, Archer simply turned his face away with a smirk, even as a couple of his peers tried to calm him down.

Eventually, Archer ended with 5/54, but Twitterati had its story.
