Shikhar Dhawan has finally opened up about his bond with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. He talks about the time he spent with them in the Indian cricket team, dominating the bowlers with ease. And his response has gone viral all over the internet.
The Indian cricket fans have now received a nostalgic moment, which takes them back to the pre lockdown days. Earlier, there was a dominant trio in the Indian batting line-up. Before Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill, there was someone else, who used to be a consistent scorer for India across formats.
And this was Shikhar Dhawan, who is also known as the Mr ICC. Even after his retirement from the game, fans still miss the times when he used to open with Rohit Sharma. Recently, the Gabbar of the Indian cricket team, was present in an interview where and Virat Kohli.
1. Shikhar Dhawan’s Interview
with a sports agency, where he talked about a number of things. His personal life, cricket career, and several other things have been discussed. And when Dhawan talks about his cricket career, it is near to impossible for him to not talk about his bond with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
He said, “Rohit and I have always shared great understanding and friendship. He entered international cricket early, while I came in later as a more mature domestic player. When Dhonibhaiasked him to open, it marked the beginning of our partnership - Our earlier grinding in our respective circuits gave us the confidence and maturity we brought to Team India. Building and sustaining that partnership for 10 years was a beautiful journey.”
While he may not have said anything about Virat Kohli along with Rohit Sharma, he mentioned about him in the interview. They have been playing together for a long time, and the interviewer asked about too.
Shikhar Dhawan said, “Yes, he always had that hunger. He played under my captaincy in Ranji Trophy, and even at 16–17 years old, he had great clarity about his game. That was his biggest strength. The day his father passed away, he still came out to bat and scored runs – that showed his character and focus. From that day on, his discipline and intensity only kept increasing.”
2. Dhawan's Dominance for ICT
Even after Shikhar Dhawan being retired from the Indian cricket team, his dominance cannot be underestimated. There is a reason why he has been called as the Mr ICC for the Indian cricket team. Across the ICC events, it was like a new normal for Shikhar Dhawan to step up and score runs for the Indian cricket team.

- 50s: 55
The main reason why Shikhar Dhawan was known as the Mr ICC for the Indian team was for his performances in the ICC ODI events. When he played his first ever ICC Champions Trophy, he finished as India's leading run scorer. In just ten games in the Champions Trophy, he has scored 701 runs with 3 centuries and 3 half-centuries.
Shikhar Dhawan's Average ODI Tournaments:

- Champions Trophy: 701 Runs, 77.88 Average
- Asia Cup: 534 Runs, 59.33 Average
Shikhar Dhawan also remains among the few batters who have won the Golden Bat. And this is something which has not been achieved by Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma. Whether it is the World Cup, Champions Trophy, or Asia Cup, he has been able to maintain above 50 average for the Indian team across all ODI tournaments.
3. Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma's Opening Duo
Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan have been the dynamic duo of the Indian team in the ODI format. While their performances and batting order may have been inconsistent in the Tests and T20Is, it was strong in the ODIs. And this has helped Rohit and Shikhar to be the best Indian opening duo lately.
Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan's ODI Partnership:
- Innings: 115
- Not Out: 2
- Runs: 5148

And if Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan were not able to do well, the team also had Virat Kohli who stepped in at number three. This iconic trio of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Shikhar Dhawan has helped India to clinch several wins over the last decade in the ODI format.
