IND vs SA | Twitter lauds Jansen as pacer catches Gaikwad napping with sharp bouncer

Marco Jansen was successful with the short ball in the Test series against India, and he continued to use the ploy admirably even in the ODI series. The tall left-arm pacer used his height to good advantage to dismiss Yashasvi Jaiswa and surprise Ruturaj Gaikwad in the second ODI in Raipur.

Ruturaj Gaikwad

‌After an erratic start, South Africa slowly got back into the second ODI against India at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur. The Proteas pacers bowled 13 wides inside five overs to help the home side reach 40/0 before coming back with the wickets of both openers.

Nandre Burger dismissed Rohit Sharma in the fifth over before fellow left-arm seamer Marco Jansen got Yashasvi Jaiswal in only his second over. Jansen continued using the short ball ploy to great use, banging a short of the length delivery to the southpaw, which took off steeply after pitching around off stump.

The Rajasthan Royals batter was beaten for pace as he was a tad slow to the pull, getting a top edge. The ball ballooned straight to Corbin Bosch, who was stationed at square leg, ending his 38-ball knock of 22.

The Proteas pacer did not stop there as he surprised new batter Ruturaj Gaikwad with another steep bumper. The Chennai Super Kings skipper was in no position to play it as he tried to fend it off with his gloves.

Fortunately for Gaikwad, the ball went up and over the wicketkeeper for a boundary as he kicked off his innings in innocuous fashion. Jansen was heartbroken as he nearly missed another scalp with his go-to ball, the bouncer. Twitter was in awe of how the pacer frequently produced wicket-taking deliveries with short-pitched deliveries.
