IND vs SA | Twitter reacts as Rana lets Brevis know with spray of abuse after ending sunning cameo

Some cricketers are fueled by love for the game, some by the love for competition. Harshit Rana definitely belongs to at least the latter category, and wasted no opportunity to let his rival Dewald Brevis know who had won this particular battle after an engrossing head-to-head encounter in Ranchi.

South Africa were left with a tall mountain to climb after four wickets in the first 15 overs left them reeling at 77/4 in pursuit of 350, against India in the first ODI in Ranchi. Matthew Breetzke and Dewald Brevis decided the best approach for the situation was a counterattack, as they launched themselves into a rapid half-century stand. Brevis naturally played aggressor, the youngster smashing two maximums early on before dispatching Harshit Rana for a smoking boundary and a no-look maximum in the same over. Brevis had raced to 37 in just 27 balls when Rana returned for his second over of the spell, and the tidings changed.

A clever change of pace and sharp bumpers earned Rana three dot balls on the trot to start the over, and a big shot was inevitable. The right-arm quick went full on fourth and Brevis could not make clear connection as the bat of his face opened up, sending the Kookaburra sailing high towards deep point where Ruturaj Gaikwad hung onto a tricky catch under the lights. Rana was unsurprisingly ecstatic and he gave Brevis a piece of his mind as he returned to the pavilion, the anger visible in his popped out eyes. Later, the big screens showed a replay of all the abuse Rana sent out his rival's way, and the young pacer could not help but apologetically laugh in embarrasment. It was not the first time Rana had let the heat of the moment get the better of him, having already displayed his aggressive streak in the IPL for Kolkata Knight Riders, but he did see the funny side of things this time.

Twitterati was thoroughly intrigued.

Even being mentioned in the same sentence as the ungodly talented AB de Villiers is bold praise, yet 'Baby AB' is a moniker Dewald Brevis has had since his teen years. The youngster continued to prove on Sunday why he deserves it as his onslaught left even the bowler Harshit Rana in awe.
