The Ashes has always been full of banter both on and off the field. And this has also happened in the upcoming edition, as both teams are taking digs at each other. It now seems that Australia holds the edge this time, as Steve Smith a former English player, Monty Panesar.

Panesar wanted the fans and English media to troll Smith with the sandpaper gate scandal. He thought that it would make Smith feel guilty, which could also benefit England ahead of the first test. However, Panesar didn't know he was dealing with one of the finest Australian players. Smith had ended up brutally roasting Monty Panesar in a recent interview.

1. Panesar Targets Smith

The Ashes has always been about both England and Australia targeting each other. Whether it is the dismissal of Jonny Bairstow or an on-field clash, both teams have been banter to a great extent. If you have not, do yourself a favour because it is pretty comical. That is as far as I will go with that one.”

For those who don't know, Monty Panesar was present in the show, The Mastermind. In the show, he was asked some questions but the answers didn't even match what the actual answer was. Smith used the answers given by Panesar in the interview to troll him, for targeting Smith with the sandpaper gate scandal.

It is not just Steve Smith who was furious with the targets made by Panesar on the Australian captain. Brad Haddin, who used to play for Australia, has also reacted to the incident, and was unhappy with the same. Smith will be leading Australia after a long time, as their skipper, Pat Cummins misses out

Smith said,“I'm pretty chilled. I think I have learned a lot over my journey. And yeah, the couple of times that I've stood in for Paddy, I've tried to be pretty relaxed and let the game play. And, obviously, I've got to do it my own way out there and have my own style. But I'm a lot more relaxed these days, chilled and let the guys go about their work.”

3. Sandpaper Gate Scandal

The sandpaper gate scandal could be termed as the darkest chapter in the history of Australian cricket. The team was playing a Test series against Australia, when three of its players were involved using sandpaper to tamper with the ball conditions. Following this, it was also revealed that Cameron Bancroft was using the sandpaper, and two more players were involved in the same. These were David Warner and Steven Smith, who served two years of suspension. Their suspension was reduced, as Smith served just one year of the ban from international cricket.
