From warm ups into the game, football has had its fair share of application in cricket and Caoimhe Bray and Alyssa Healy demonstrated that in Women’s Big Bash League in Sydney. The Sydney Sixers duo combined creatively to scare Melbourne Stars’ opener Rhys McKenna though the batter dived to safety.

‌After being put into bat at the North Sydney Oval, Melbourne Stars’ openers Meg Lanning and Rhys McKenna had a good start against Sydney Sixers in the Women’s Big Bash League on Thursday. The duo added 32 runs in the four-over powerplay and continued to push the scoring going on to reach 69 at the end of eight overs.

Mckenna was the aggressor early on with two fours and a six in her 15-ball 23, while Lanning took her time scoring seven fours to reach 37 in 34 balls. Meanwhile, Sixers’ skipper Ashleigh Gardner brought back teenage pacer Caoimhe Bray back into the attack in search of that elusive dismissal.

She nearly produced one, in partnership with Alyssa Healy, but McKenna extended her stay at the crease with a full-stretched dive. Off the second ball of the ninth over, the pacer pushed the ball in from a short of the length into Lanning, with the veteran batter swinging the bat wildly.

The ball, however, took an inside edge before ricocheting off Lanning’s leg as Bray sprinted to fetch it. With a hesitant McKenna covering quick ground to the striker’s end, Bray had to go for the left footer aiming for the timber.

An alert Healy, who was charging in did her part too, tapping back the ball after it had nearly missed the stumps in the first instance. But McKenna made her ground with a desperate dive with the tap from Healy also missing the stumps.

Twitter was in awe of Bray and Healy’s footballing skills, as the duo went about producing the perfect assist and tap-in, to almost plot McKenna’s dismissal.
