We have seen many situations where a match gets called off, but the WBBL game between Adelaide Strikers and Hobart Hurricanes had a unique ending. With the rollers in action at the halfway stage, a ball accidentally went under to create a dent in the playing surface, with the match being suspended.

‌Adelaide Strikers had to share a point with Hobart Hurricanes in their Women’s Big Bash League 2025 game after the match was called off at the halfway mark in Adelaide. Just after the Strikers’ innings ended at 167/4, the groundstaff put the rollers to use to get the surface ready ahead of the start of the second innings. Just then, a ball accidentally came under it to create a hole on the strip, making it unfit to continue play.

The umpires, after consulting with the captains of both sides, decided not to continue the game, and the teams separated with a point apiece. The Hurricanes ended their group proceedings with 15 points and head directly to the final, courtesy of their first-place finish. Meanwhile, the Strikers are currently in sixth with nine points and need to win their last league game to make it to the playoffs.

Earlier, opener Madeline Penna top-scored for the home side after being put in at the Karen Rolton Oval with an unbeaten half-century. She hit seven fours and two sixes during her 51-ball 63, while wicketkeeper-batter Bridget Patterson’s entertaining cameo (24 off 12 balls) took the side past the 150-run mark. However, the match had to be abandoned without a result after unforeseen events during the break brought a quick closure.
