Hobart Hurricanes beat Melbourne Renegades by six wickets (DLS method) in a rain-shortened WBBL match in Sydney on Thursday. Heather Graham picked up three wickets to bowl out the Renegades for 155 before Nicola Carey and Dani Wyatt-Hodge played crucial knocks in the revised chase.
After being put into bat at the North Sydney Oval, Renegades had a horrific start, losing both their openers inside the first three overs to off-spinner Molly Strano, who kicked off proceedings for Hurricanes. Meanwhile, a stunning effort from Linsey Smith in the next over ended captain Sophie Molineux’s stay as Renegades stared down the barrel at 27/3 at the end of the four-over powerplay mark. But Georgia Wareham and Alice Capsey brought them back into the game with a 56-run partnership for the fourth wicket in 43 balls. The Melbourne-based outfit were placed at 67/3 at the halfway mark when the duo opted for the two-over power surge. Capsey hit three boundaries off countrymate Linsey Smith before holing out in the deep, ending her 24-ball innings for 37, which included six fours. Meanwhile, Wareham targeted Hayley Silver-Holmes from the other end, smashing four fours and a six, but departed in the same over to walk back after an entertaining 41 (6*4, 1*6) off just 26 balls. Though the surge saw the Renegades plunder 39 runs in two overs, they lost both set batters in Capsey and Wareham. As a result, they could manage just 49 runs in the last 45 balls before being bowled out for 155 with three balls to spare. For the Hurricanes, medium pacer Heather Graham finished with impressive figures of 3/23 in four overs, while Strano had 2/13 in her two overs.
With lightning and bad weather delaying the restart, the Hurricanes were set a revised target of 139 in 17 overs, with the power surge option reduced to one over. Opener Lizelle Lee gave them a splendid start, smashing two fours and a six in a 16-run over from left-arm spinner Charis Bekker. That gave them the momentum in the run chase as Danni Wyatt-Hodge also chipped in with two fours and a six during her 15-ball 21. But her dismissal brought the match back to even keel, with the batting unit still needing 85 off the last ten overs with seven wickets in hand. However, Nicola Carey’s sensible innings kept the side ahead of the curve, as she added 38 runs with Graham in four overs. The southpaw hit six boundaries during her 29-ball 39, with rain once again interrupting play after her dismissal in the 11th over. The target was revised to 106 runs in 13 overs, with the side needing to score 12 off the last 10 balls. Captain Elyse Villani finished the game in style with a four and a six off Milly Illingworth as the Hurricanes ended at 106/4 with an over to spare. Wareham was the pick among the Renegades’ bowlers with figures of 2/17 in two overs, while Illingworth and Tess Flintoff picked up a wicket apiece.

True!
WBBL would be so much better if the damn rain didn't keep interrupting and shortening games.
