Catches win matches, they say, and Linsey Smith’s extraordinary effort gave Hobart Hurricanes a crucial dismissal in a Women’s Big Bash League game in Sydney. The England spinner put in a full-length dive to pull off a stunning catch to dismiss Melbourne Renegades captain Sophie Molineux.

‌Hobart Hurricanes had a good start after putting Melbourne Renegades in during their Women’s Big Bash League game at North Sydney Oval in Sydney on Thursday. Off-spinner Molly Strano, who started proceedings for the fielding side, picked two wickets in her first two overs to reduce Renegades to 19/2 in three overs.

With medium pacer Hayley Silver-Holmes introduced into the mix in the fourth, Linsey Smith came up with an extraordinary effort to give the medium pacer a wicket in her very first over. Renegades skipper Sopie Molineux moved away from her stumps just as the bowler was about to deliver, to give herself room.

As a result, she was far away from an overpitched ball that pitched around off-stump and ended up slicing her full-blooded drive with the ball flying towards third man. Smith, who was stationed there, showed excellent anticipation to sprint immediately towards the ball before making a Superman-like dive.

To Molineux’s horror, the England spinner caught the ball when she was fully airborne before completing the forward dive smoothly. Twitter and Molineux were stunned as Smith got up and charged towards her teammates and enjoyed all the attention.
