Rishabh Pant is a batter who can do enormous damage in a very short time, and was looking to take the game away in Kolkata. But South African off-spinner Simon Harmer had other plans as he dismissed the wicketkeeper-batter in the second session of day three before pumping his fists in jubilation.

After starting the third day of the first Test against India at 93/7, South Africa were bowled out for 153 ahead of lunch at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Captain Temba Bavuma’s fighting half-century helped the visitors set a respectable target of 124, while Ravindra Jadeja was the pick among the Indian bowlers with figures of 4/50.

The hosts’ pursuit started on the wrong note with openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul back in the hut inside three overs with the score reading just one. However, Dhruv Jurel and Washington Sundar steadied things up with a patient 32-run stand before a rush of blood cost the former his wicket.

The Indian faithful were still confident with Rishabh Pant walking in and only 91 runs to win the match. However, Simon Harmer had other plans, ending the Indian stand-in skipper’s 13-ball stay.

The off-spinner bowled a flighted delivery that was a tad full and pitched on middle stump, with the wicketkeeper-batter driving the ball straight back. The lanky off-spinner showed great anticipation as he pouched a safe catch immediately after completing his bowling action.

The entire stadium went silent as the bowler pumped his fists in jubilation, indicating how important the wicket was for the visitors’ fortunes. Twitter was impressed as Harmer proved to be a tricky customer and showed what he could do with the red cherry.
