Here Are the Players That Delhi Capitals Released and Retained for IPL 2026

Delhi Capitals retained 17 players for the IPL 2026 auction, including Axar Patel, KL Rahul, Kuldeep Yadav, Mitchell Starc, and T Natarajan. DC released six players, with Faf du Plessis being the biggest surprise. Their remaining purse stands at Rs 21.80 crore.

Under the headline Roar Macha, Delhi Capitals are preparing to step into another IPL season with the same ambition they have carried since 2008 and the hunt for their first IPL Title continues, and the franchise is hoping that a more settled unit and smarter decisions will finally guide them to a breakthrough. Last season brought seven wins from fourteen matches, but that was not enough to secure a spot in the top four, which left supporters expecting firm moves ahead of the new campaign and going into the upcoming season, Delhi Capitals have confirmed their full list of retained and released players, a move that immediately caught the attention of fans. 

The franchise has backed a strong core by retaining sixteen players, showing confidence in the group that has formed the backbone of the team. On the other hand, six players have been released as the management looks to reshape certain areas and open opportunities for new additions and the team has also traded out one player to another franchise as part of their planning for the season. With these decisions now public, the Capitals have set the tone for their IPL 2026 campaign, building excitement as the new season approaches.

Retained Players

As the preparations start for the new IPL season, the Delhi Capitals have given a list of the 17 players that they have decided to retain. The list starts with the first set of players like KL Rahul and Tristan Stubbs, who have been the premier players for the Delhi Capitals in the middle order. With KL Rahul smashing 539 runs in 13 innings and Tristan Stubbs making 300 runs from 13 innings at a strike rate of 150.75, the Delhi Capitals team has again shown their trust on them. 

Besides this, the team has decided to retain Sameer Rizvi, Karun Nair, and Abhishek Porel, who will continue to strengthen the top and middle order of the Delhi Capitals team. Players like Ashutosh Sharma, Madhav Tiwari, Vipraj Nigam, Tripurana Vijay, and Ajay Mandal have also found a place in the retention list of the Delhi Capitals team for the IPL 202,6 and the management will look forward to give these youngsters a place in the playing XI for the upcoming season.

Coming to the section of the bowlers, the Delhi Capitals team has decided to retain their core of the bowling lineup, as the team will be having the players such as T Natrajan, who played just 1 match for the team in the IPL 2025, but still the management has shown faith in him for the upcoming season. Moving forward, Mitchell Starc has also been retained by the team for the upcoming season despite announcing retirement from the T20 Internationals. The bowler picked 14 wickets from the 10 matches played in the last season for the team. 

Another foreign player who has been retained by the team is Dushmantha Chameera from Sri Lanka. In the 5 matches played by him in the previous season, he managed to pick a total of 4 wickets with an average of 42.75. Amongst the Indian bowlers, Mukesh Kumar is the premier bowler who has got the retention done for the team, as in the last 12 matches, he has picked up 12 wickets for the team while keeping an average of 34.00. Amongst the spinners, Kuldeep Yadav is the bowler who got his name mentioned in the retention list amongst the Indian bowlers. 

The last name on the retention list is Axar Patel, the captain of the Delhi Capitals team. Picking up 5 wickets in the last season and scoring 263 runs for the team in the last season, he will again be a key member of the team in the upcoming season. 

Traded Players

Coming to the Trade Window, the Delhi Capitals managed to make an amazing trade come alive as the team got the premier batsman Nitish Rana from the Rajasthan Royals for a sum of INR 4.2 Crore, and he has been termed as a great addition to the Delhi Team in the middle order. In return, the Delhi Capitals team has given Donovan Ferreira for just INR 1 Crore.

Released Players 

Seeing the list of the Released players, the Delhi Capitals management has decided to release the top order batters, Faf du Plessis, who managed to play 9 matches for the team and scored 202 runs for them. The second player on the list who has been released is Jake Fraser-McGurk, who had a poor run in the season and managed just 55 runs from the 6 innings played at an average of 9.16 for the team.

  • Manvanth Kumar - 30 Lakhs

  • Darshan Nalkande - 30 Lakhs

Coming to the third player in the list, it is Mohit Sharma who managed to pick up a total of 2 wickets for the team in the 8 innings played, and hence his poor form became the reason for the team to release him for the IPL 2026.

The other 3 players who failed to get their names in the retention list for the season are Sediqullah Atal, Manvanth Kumar, and Darshan Nalkande, as they failed to make the waves through their performance and hence the team management has decided to release them.

Purse Remaining 

With a total of 17 players retained from the squad and releasing 6 players from the team, the Delhi Capitals team will be entering the IPL 2026 Auction with a purse of INR 21.80 Crores. 

For the Auction, the team management has a chance of filling upto a total of 8 players, out of which they have a chance of filling 5 overseas players into their team as they will be preparing to finally lift the IPL Cup for the first time.
