Punjab Kings will be entering the next season of TATA IPL with high hopes. The team was able to reach the finals of the last season, which they never did over the last decade. So, it was expected that the retentions are going to be many, and releases will be few.

Punjab Kings, the runners-up of the previous season, are now starting their Mission IPL once again. The last time, the team was stronger than ever, with Shreyas Iyer as their captain. Sarpanch Saab gave everything to the team, and helped them to reach the finals. But unfortunately, the team fell short by a margin of 6 runs to win.

Still, their line-up strength was enough to help them finish at the top of the table. Due to this reason, you won't be seeing many heartbreaks in the retention and release list of the team. They have focused on keeping the majority of their players in the team, and winning the next season.

Retained Players

Punjab Kings have retained almost all of the players who were in the team in the last season. This puts them in a strong position, as they did have a strong line-up last time, which helped them to make a spot in the finals. Shreyas Iyer, also known as Sarpanch Saab, will be continuing as the captain of the team in the next edition.

Along with him, the team has also retained both of its openers, Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh. Watching them give an aggressive start has been a moment of relaxation for the Punjab fans, which they will be able to witness again. Moreover, they have also retained Nehal Wadhera and Shashank Singh.

PBKS Retained Players:

  • Shreyas Iyer (C)
  • Nehal Wadhera
  • Priyansh Arya
  • Shashank Singh
  • Pyla Avinash
  • Harnoor Pannu
  • Musheer Khan
  • Prabhsimran Singh
  • Vishnu Vinod
  • Marcus Stoinis (Foreign)
  • Marco Jansen (Foreign)
  • Azmatullah Omarzai (Foreign)
  • Suryansh Shedge
  • Mitchell Owen (Foreign)
  • Arshdeep Singh
  • Vyshak Vijaykumar
  • Yash Thakur
  • Xavier Bartlett
  • Lockie Ferguson
  • Yuzvendra Chahal
  • Harpreet Brar

Shashank Singh is a name which Punjab Kings could not let go. It should be noted that the team mistakenly bought him ahead of the IPL 2024 season. But his performances for them have made him retained for two consecutive seasons. Even in the IPL 2025 finals, Shashank Singh fought till the end for Punjab Kings, putting them close in the game.

Except for Prabhsimran Singh, the team has retained another wicket-keeper, who is Vishnu Vinod. Despite not playing for any of the last two IPL seasons, he has been picked as a back-up wicket-keeper. When it comes to all-rounders, Punjab Kings was filled with the foreign players only.

And they have decided to maintain almost the same lineup for all-rounders in the next edition. The team has retained Marcus Stoinis, Mitchell Owen, Azmatullah Omarzai, and Marco Jansen, who have proven to be helpful with both bat and ball. Mitchell Owen was able to break the jinx of Hobart Hurricanes in the BBL, and could even break it for Punjab Kings this time.

Marcus Stoinis and Azmatullah Omarzai will be adding more depth to their batting line-up. At the same time, Stoinis is known for taking wickets whenever the main bowlers fail to do so. Marco Jansen has been primarily included as a bowling all-rounder, but he can also bat for the team in the lower order, to score runs.

Even in their bowling line-up, Punjab Kings have made no exceptions. The team has retained Arshdeep Singh, Vyshak Vijaykumar, Yash Thakur, Xavier Bartlett, and Lockie Ferguson in the pacers. Their pace line-up looks strong from both the power play to the death overs. Arshdeep Singh has been a notable inclusion, noting the fact that he is the highest wicket-taker for India in T20Is.

Punjab Kings also have Xavier Bartlett and Lockie Ferguson as the foreign pacers. Ferguson will be bringing in his experience, while Bartlett is known for his variations. Their spin department is also looking dominant, as they enter the next IPL season. The team will be having both Yuzvendra Chahal and Harpreet Brar to their line-up.

Chahal was known to be a part of the team for the next edition. He took a hat-trick in the match against Chennai Super Kings, creating a mark of his abilities in the game. Moreover, Harpreet Brar has been a strong wicket-taking option for the team, as he took 10 wickets in 7 innings in the last season.

Released Players

When it comes to the releases, Punjab Kings have decided they will not be putting the fans in a shock. Due to this reason, the team has made just five releases from their line-up, which is among the least releases made by any team ahead of the next season. The majority of the players which were released were either unable to do well, or received less opportunities.

When it comes to the notable releases made by the team, Josh Inglis will be having his name at the top. He used to bat for them in the middle order, and even ended up scoring a good total of runs. Inglis had an average of 30.88, and a strike rate of 162.57, still, he has not been retained by Punjab Kings for the next season.

PBKS Released Players List:

  • Josh Inglis - 2.5 Crore (Foreign)
  • Aaron Hardie - 1.25 Crore (Foreign)
  • Glenn Maxwell - 4.20 Crore (Foreign)
  • Kuldeep Sen - 80 Lakh
  • Praveen Dubey - 30 Lakh

Along with him, the team has also released two all-rounders, which includes Aaron Hardie and Glenn Maxwell. Aaron Hardie didn't even play a single game for the team in the previous season. And when it comes to Glenn Maxwell, he was not able to utilise the opportunities well, which made Punjab Kings to release him from the line-up.

For the bowlers, the team has released two, which includes Kuldeep Sen and Praveen Dubey. Kuldeep Sen came with high hopes in the Punjab’s line-up, but ended up with no matches played. On the other hand, Praveen Dubey played just one game in the last season, but proved to be costly.

Purse Remaining

Punjab Kings have just 11.50 crore rupees remaining in their purse. With their funds being among the lowest, they will have to make moves in the auction with alarmed decisions. As the team has released three of their foreign players, they will still be able to get two more for the next season. Punjab Kings has 6 foreign players retained, allowing them to get two more.
