Gujarat Titans is also gearing up for the TATA IPL 2026 season. With its retention list, fans have been happy watching some of their favourite players stay in the team. But it also has made some shocking releases, which puts more challenges for them in the auction.
Gujarat Titans could be termed as one of the most dominant teams in the IPL recently. The team won its first ever IPL title in its first season, and even went on to the finals in the IPL 2023 season. But they have not been able to get close to the trophy since the IPL 2023 edition, where they missed out on the trophy by a bare margin.
Even the last season gave some hopes to Gujarat Titans, with the team reaching the Eliminator stage of the tournament. They are now eager to win their second IPL title in the next season, for which they have also made some notable changes to their line-up. Beware, because the release list might even hurt some GT fans.
With Gujarat Titans being among the top performers in the last season, the team knew they wouldn't require much changes to their line-up. Due to this reason, the majority of the players have ended up being retained by the team. Fans would be able to watch the key players perform for GT once again in the next edition.
In the batting line-up, the team has only retained two players, which includes Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan. Gill has been a global phenomenon, whose performances have been almost record breaking in the IPL. And Sudharsan, he was already the Orange Cap winner in the previous IPL season.
GT Retained Players:
It is clear that Gujarat Titans is having a strong opening pair, with both players winning the Orange Cap once. When it comes to the wicket-keepers, the team has retained all of them, which were in the last season. This includes Kumar Kushagra, Anuj Rawat, and Jos Buttler. Buttler also did well for the team in the last season, scoring 538 runs in 14 matches at an average of 59.77, with 5 half-centuries.
All-rounders have been the key area of focus for the team. There were reports that Gujarat Titans could end up trading any one of their all-rounders, but the team went on to retain the strong players. In the all-rounders, Gujarat has retained Nishant Sindhu, Washington Sundar, Arshad Khan, Shahrukh Khan, and Rahul Tewatia.
It will be a treat for the fans to have Rahul Tewatia and Shahrukh Khan play for the team in the middle order. Tewatia has already shown some match winning performances for the team in the last few seasons. Now, it is time for the fans to watch Rahul dominate the bowlers yet again in the death overs.
Washington Sundar could get a big role, considering the team's top order right now. Gujarat Titans were known for its pace bowling line-up also in the previous season. And the team made sure that they were able to maintain the rhythm even this time, retaining the majority of their fast bowlers.
This includes Kagiso Rabada, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Ishant Sharma, and Gurnoor Singh Brar. With this bowling line-up, Gujarat Titans are already able to bring experience with the help of Ishant Sharma, and modern skills, with the help of Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj. It should be noted that Siraj bowled the most dot balls in the IPL 2025 season.
Gujarat Titans have kept all the players from the spin department. Despite not being able to perform well in the last season, Rashid Khan has been retained by the team, which is a happy news for the fans. He will also be joined with other spinners such as Sai Kishore, Manav Suthar, and Jayant Yadav.
Gujarat Titans have not released many players from their squad for the next season. The team has made just six releases of their squad, which shows that there would be a majority of similar faces playing for the team in IPL 2026. Their shocking releases started with Sherfane Rutherford, who has been a key batter for them in previous seasons.
Rutherford held a strike rate above 160 in the last season, but has now been traded by Gujarat Titans to Mumbai Indians. This also means someone else would have to take over the responsibility of some big hits for the team in the death overs. Along with that, Gujarat Titans have also released Mahipal Lomror from their line-up, as he will enter the auction yet again.
GT Released Players List:
In all-rounders too, Gujarat Titans have made some shocking releases, as the team released Dasun Shanaka and Karim Janat. Shanaka has not received many opportunities to play for the team, as he didn't play even a single game in the last two editions. Karim Janat, the Afghanistani all-rounder has also been released by the team, as he did not receive many chances to play.
Gujarat Titans have shocked every fan with their releases in bowlers. Gerald Coetzee, the Proteas bowler, has now been released by the team, as he came out to be ineffective for their bowling line-up in the last season. Along with him, the team has also released Kulwant Khejroliya, who played just one game for the team in the previous season.
Gujarat Titans have made some key releases ahead of the IPL auction, and this has helped them to free up the purse. The team will be entering the auction with 12.90 crore rupees, and there are four teams which lie within this range in their IPL auction purse. But the question is, who would Gujarat Titans be targeting in the auction, as their line-up looks packed with key performers.
