The internal rifts have now started to grow in the Indian cricket team. Some reports say that two legendary stars, Rohit and Virat, are not having a great time in the dressing room. This further indicates a dressing room rift between RoKo and Gautam Gambhir, which has now escalated.

No matter how well a team performs on the field, their off field environment should be good. Unfortunately, that has not been the case of the Indian cricket team right now. Particularly in the ODI format, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are not having a great time in the dressing room, with of the team.

Some of these rumours of rift escalated when Kohli and Rohit gave their best in the first ODI. But the reaction of Gautam Gambhir remained neutral, and he didn't seem too happy for the same. This has also made the fans think what could possibly be happening in the Indian camp right now, as the team prepares for the future.

1. Is the Indian Team Having an Internal Rift?

A news agency has been in touch with some top sources of the BCCI. And talking to them, it has been revealed that things are not going well in the Indian camp these days. While the team is struggling to perform well in the Test format, they have also not been able to maintain a good environment

The reports say that India is having a good environment in the Test and T20Is. But in the ODIs format, the environment of the dressing room remains dynamic with Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma present in it. Gautam Gambhir is also not sharing the same relationship as before with the of the Indian team.

“The relations between Gautam Gambhir and senior players Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma aren’t as good as they should be, and there could be a meeting regarding the future of the two players. This could take place either in Raipur or Visakhapatnam – venues for the second and third ODIs.”

This environment of the dressing room has been going on since the India tour of Australia. Rohit Sharma didn't talk to Ajit Agarkar, the BCCI Chief Selector, which indicated that they are not on good terms. Kohli and Gambhir also had limited conversations with each other even during the ODIs

The BCCI is also not happy with the backlash received by Gautam Gambhir on social media. The BCCI source said,“During the Australia series, Rohit and Agarkar did not interact at all. Between then and now, even Kohli and Gambhir haven’t spoken much to each other. Besides, the manner in which fans of Kohli and Rohit are attacking Gambhir on social media has made the BCCI upset.”

2. Re-watch The Past?

It has not been for the very first time when the environment of the Indian dressing room has faded like this. And mostly, it is not just for the Indian team, this has happened with other teams also. The endings of such incidents, according to the fans, have been two, either the coach steps down from his position, or the players retire.

Fallout of Greg Chappell

The incident which is happening right now is a bit similar to what happened after the 2007 World Cup. Greg Chappell, who was India's Head Coach at that time, had tensions with the senior players of the Indian team. He also told Sourav Ganguly at one stage from the position of a captain.

Following this, a toxic environment was created in the dressing room, and even Sachin Tendulkar was unhappy with the coach. Several other players also expressed discomfort with the decisions taken by Greg Chappell for the Indian team. Eventually, Chappell decided to step down as the Head Coach of the Indian team after the World Cup.

Kumble-Kohli Clash

It is also not for the first time that Virat Kohli is not having a good time with the coach. This has also happened when Anil Kumble was the Head Coach of the Indian team in 2017. Kohli was the captain of the Indian team and he didn't like the strict coaching style of Anil Kumble. This eventually led to a fallout between them, following which Kumble resigned from the post.
