Australian wicketkeeper Peter Nevill suffered a blow to his jaw in a bizarre accident while keeping wickets for BBL side Adelaide Strikers on Monday. Nevill was watching the ball run towards the mid-wicket region when the bat slipped from batsman Brad Hodge's hands and hit him.

While cricket does not warrant for too many injuries on the field since it is not a contact sport, the cricket ball has always posed a danger to players. But Nevill suffered an injury from an unlikely object—the bat.

In a match against Melbourne Renegades, Nevill was struck by the willow when Hodge lost his grip on the bat while trying to slog Thisara Perara towards the mid-wicket region. Nevill, who was watching the ball reach the fielder, was caught off guard when the bat hit him on the face.

Nevill was rushed to the hospital for X-Rays. “Fears are he suffered a fracture to the jaw,” read a tweet from the KFC Big Bash League.
