The Indian cricket team has not been able to do well in the home tests. With the series against South Africa, India is about to lose its second of the last three home series, breaking records at home. Amidst this, the former BCCI Chief Selector has called out Gambhir for his selection issues.
Gautam Gambhir has now been under scrutiny for his actions which has led to the Indian team's performance being deteriorated in Tests. As of now, India is about to lose another Test series at home, as they chase a massive target against South Africa at home. The Proteas started off the series with a win, and it is too.
This has been a moment of worry not just for the Indian fans but also for the former players. The former BCCI Chief Selector has called out the issues being faced by the Indian team these days. He also called out the inconsistent selection done by the team which has cost them games at the home conditions.
1. Kris Srikanth Criticises Gambhir
Kris Srikanth, who has already been a part of the Indian team and the BCCI Selection panel, has voiced his opinion on Gautam Gambhir. He said that the Indian team is having some inconsistent selections in the Test format, which prevents the team from winning games in the home conditions. South Africa already started off the series with a win, and held an upper hand even on day four
He spoke about the issues of the Indian team in the Test format on his YouTube channel. Fans will be able to watch it on the latest edition of his YouTube show, Cheeky Cheeka, where he talked about the inconsistent performances and selection opportunities by the Indian team. Srikanth also questioned the choices of Gambhir during the game when it came to the squad selection.
, “Why isn’t Axar Patel playing? Was he unfit? He has been consistent at all levels. Why so much chopping and changing? Every alternate match someone is making a debut. They can call it trial and error. Gautam Gambhir can say whatever he wants — I don’t care. I have been a former captain and a former chairman of selectors. I know what I’m talking about.”
This is yet another dig taken by Kris Srikanth over Gautam Gambhir in the last few weeks. Earlier, he also called upon Harshit Rana as the Yes Man to Gautam Gambhir, which has helped him to be a part of the team across all formats. Gambhir made by Srikanth as shameful.
Srikanth also called upon the players of the Indian team who called the pitch as a road. He said,“I don’t understand. Kuldeep Yadav said nothing was happening on the pitch. Then today we see Indians edging to slips against Simon Harmer and Keshav Maharaj, and also getting out to bouncers from Marco Jansen - five wickets to short balls on a supposed ‘road’.”
2. Srikanth Criticises Pant
Kris Srikanth not only just lashed out his voice on Gautam Gambhir. He also talked about how Rishabh Pant's performances might have cost India the second Test match and potential chance to end the series with a draw. During the first innings of the game, Rishabh Pant had attempted an aggressive shot against Marco Jansen.
But he failed in connecting it fully with his bat, and the ball was caught behind by the wicket-keeper. Following this, Pant also appealed to check whether the ball had connected with his bat or not. It was a clear spike on the ultra edge, and Pant was given out. Despite being the captain of the team, he went out
, “They will say it’s his natural game, but he is the captain. Shouldn’t he see the match situation? Wrong selection policies. You need consistency.”He ended by saying this, and it shows that even the former BCCI Chief Selector is not happy with the level of decisions which have been taken by Gautam Gambhir in the selection of playing XI for the games.
South Africa already stands with a 1-0 lead in the series, as they won the Eden Gardens test with a margin of 30 runs. Now in the Guwahati Test, the team holds an upper hand as they have given a target of 549 runs to India. In response to this massive target, India has also started badly by losing the wickets of their openers.
