IND vs SA | Twitter in awe as Markram takes flight at slip to grab one-handed blinder and down India

No amount of talent can instill in a player the mentality to step up when the team requires, for the two are entirely different skillsets altogether. Fortunately for Aiden Markram he has plenty of both, and Monday in Guwahati was no different as he took a brilliant catch to dispatch Nitish Reddy.

Aiden Markram hung in the air to take a ripper for South Africa against India in the second Test in Guwahati

‌South Africa built upon their advantage from the first two days with a brilliant bowling display on Day 3 of the second Test at Baraspara Stadium in Guwahati as they edged closer to a maiden whitewash on Indian soil. The hosts collapsed after a 65-run opening stand to 122/7 as six wickets fell in a little over 10 overs either side of Tea. Marco Jansen proved to be the wrecker-in-chief with four scalps, but it was the fielders that truly stole the show with one incredible catch after another including a low take by Jansen himself while diving forward to get rid of Jaiswal. However, even amongst the incredible dispays of agility, there was one clear standout that is set to go down as the catch of the series.

Bowling the 42nd over, Jansen was in the midst of a hostile spell with the short ball as his primary weapon, a lethal variety of which he delivered to Nitish Kumar Reddy on the fourth ball. The all-rounder tried to defend with a straight bat but the red cherry spat off the surface to hit the bat handle, before ballooning towards the third man region. Any other fielder stood where Markram was, at the far end of the slip cordon, might have watched the SG hit the deck as they sauntered over to collect it but not the hardened Proteas. Markram anticipated brilliantly to start moving to his right as soon as the ball left the bat, and after a couple of strides put in a huge despairing dive at full stretch. The ball somehow stuck to his palm with Markram nearly parallel to the ground, and thus ended the stay of Reddy.

Markram unsurprisingly spotted a huge grin while sitting on the floor as his teammates rushed to mob him, with Jansen particularly ecstatic as he hyped up his compatriot. Reddy, on the other hand, began a slow trot back while his partner Jadeja had his head in his hands in disbelief after Markram held on, much like Twitterati.
