Rajasthan Royals had a terrible time in the last IPL season. The team finished 9th in the IPL standings, and were way disappointed with their performances. Due to this reason, Rajasthan Royals has gone through a number of changes to ensure that they are able to win the IPL 2026 edition.
The team which started off by winning the first IPL season has now gone 17 seasons without winning it. Taking a look at the same, Rajasthan Royals has made some key changes to its line-up with the retention list. While some are released and some are retained, there are a few surprise inclusions to the team also due to the IPL Trade Window.
Retained Players
Rajasthan Royals have focused on keeping their key players in the line-up. They have kept all the shining stars, who have been proving themselves across formats lately, which could also improve the team's performances in the next season. In total, Rajasthan has retained just 16 players, and this might allow them to enter the auction with a good purse.
Their retention started with two aggressive Indian batsmen, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Suryavanshi. Jaiswal currently stands tall for the Indian team in the Test format, and Vaibhav Suryavanshi has been giving the statement of intent in almost every match he plays in domestic or even for India A.

They have been the key to help Rajasthan Royals win games, with their aggressive batting style in the death overs.
Shubham Dubey has also been retained by the team, and it should be noted that he has a tremendous strike rate in the middle order. Dubey had a strike rate above 160 in the last season, which makes him a key element, if Jurel or Hetmyer lose their wickets. Along with that, Riyan Parag has made his way back to the team. Parag even led Rajasthan for a few games in absence of Sanju Samson.
Rajasthan Royals knew that its main strength lies in the bowling department, which helped them to make the top retention. Rajasthan will also be hoping that there won't be anymore injury scares for the bowler.
Along with him, the team has retained three Indian bowlers, which includes Tushar Deshpande, Sandeep Sharma, and Yudhvir Singh. Two South African bowlers have also made their way to the line-up, being retained ahead of the auction. These players include Nandre Burger and Kwena Maphaka.

And with Jadeja joining them back, the RR fans would be having a nostalgic moment.
Ravindra Jadeja has been traded by the team from Chennai Super Kings. Along with him, the team also got Sam Curran for 2.4 crores, which comes as a steal deal. While Curran may not be as effective as he was before, his inclusion could be a lot helpful to Rajasthan Royals in the next season.
Rajasthan Royals have also acquired a wicket-keeper to their team, and it is Donovan Ferreira. He has been traded to them by Delhi Capitals, and has not received many chances to play in his previous teams. It should be noted that Ferreira was also a part of Rajasthan in the IPL 2024 edition.
