IPL 2025 | GT vs LSG Match Preview: Gujarat eye top two finish as they host out-of-sorts Lucknow

‌Gujarat Titans will look to continue their winning momentum as they take on Lucknow Super Giants at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Thursday. GT are currently on top of the Indian Premier League 2025 points table with 18 points from 12 matches while the already eliminated LSG are placed seventh with 10 points.

The GT campaign has been led by the exemplary batting of their top-three batters with all of them aggregating more than 500 runs this season. GT walk into this contest after scoring a massive 10-wicket win over Delhi Capitals with Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill scoring a century and half-century, respectively. Both batters are in fine nick and are on top of the list run-getters with 617 runs and 601 runs, this season.

Meanwhile, the bowling department has also been impressive with Prasidh Krishna on top of the wicket-takers list with 21 scalps from 12 games at an average of 17.57 and a strike rate of 13.42. Both Mohammed Siraj and left-arm spinner Sai Kishore have supported Prasidh well with 15 wickets each.

On the other hand, LSG’s campaign has gone from bad to worse this season with their loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad at home ending their playoff hopes in IPL 2025. The disastrous campaign of Rishabh Pant, their captain and costliest pick this season, summarises LSG’s woes this year. The wicketkeeper-batter has a meagre tally of 135 runs averaging 12.27 and striking at 100.00 and has helmed a side that has been one of the most inconsistent units this year. Their campaign has been saved to an extent by the performance of their top-order batters with Nicholas Pooran being their top run-getter tallying 455 runs.

The Narendra Modi Stadium, with its flat surface and true bounce, has always favoured the batters and run-making and this season has been no different with at least one team going past the 200-run mark in all but one match. Though bigger in size, the outfield is lightning quick and aids the batters with the ball nicely coming onto the bat. Out of the total five matches in IPL 2025 played at the venue, four have been won by teams batting first prompting the captains to bat first and set a big total on board.

It will be a sunny day, but partly cloudy, with temperatures expected to reach 42 degrees during the day before coming down to 28 at night. The probability of rain is around 25% during the day but will recede to 4% in the evening and night.

GT are expected to go with the same team while Digvesh Rathi will miss the game due to his suspension after an altercation with Abhishek Sharma during the LSG vs SRH game on Monday and might be replaced by left-arm spinner Manimaran Siddarth.
