RR vs CSK | Twitter frenzied as Chennai confirm last-place finish with mammoth defeat in Delhi

For the first time in their history, Chennai Super Kings are all set to finish last in the table after being thoroughly mauled by fellow strugglers Rajasthan Royals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday. In what was effectively a battle to avoid last place, the Pink Army came out on top easily.

‌Chennai Super Kings, opting to bat first, got off to a lively start with Devon Conway hitting two early boundaries before falling cheaply. Yudhvir Singh struck again shortly after, removing Urvil Patel with the help of a sharp catch from Kwena Mphaka. CSK then promoted Ravichandran Ashwin, who chipped in with a quick cameo, but it was Ayush Mhatre's explosive 43 off just 20 balls that gave the innings early momentum, pushing the powerplay total to 68/3. However, the innings lost steam soon after, with Mhatre and Jadeja dismissed in quick succession. Despite a steady 59-run stand between Dewald Brevis and Shivam Dube, the finishing kick never arrived as MS Dhoni's slow 16 meant CSK crawled to 187, scoring just 28 in the last four overs.
In response, Rajasthan Royals absorbed the early pressure before Yashasvi Jaiswal tore into Khaleel Ahmed with three boundaries and a six in the third over. Though Jaiswal fell soon after, his blitz had set the tone. Sanju Samson and Vaibhav Suryavanshi built on it brilliantly, weathering a quiet phase before launching into a match-defining 98-run stand. Samson’s composed 41 off 31 kept the scoreboard ticking, while Suryavanshi’s 50 off 27 ensured the chase stayed ahead of the rate. With just over 50 needed from the last 40 balls, the Royals finished with flair as Shimron Hetmyer and Dhruv Jurel closed out the game comfortably. Jurel’s explosive 31* off 12, laced with five sixes, wrapped up a dominant win with nearly three overs to spare.
