CSK vs RR | Rajasthan resign Chennai to new lows as Yellow Army confirm last-place finish with thumping defeat

Rajasthan Royals ended their Indian Premier League 2025 campaign on a positive note as they breezed past Chennai Super Kings and practically confirmed a ninth placed finish. Quick knocks from Ayush Mhatre and Dewald Brevis helped CSK put 187 on the board which was chased down with 17 balls to spare.
Asked to bat first, Devon Conway got Chennai Super Kings off to a rapid start with two boundaries in as many overs, only to chip his eighth ball straight to Riyan Parag at mid-off. Yudhvir Singh added a second scalp to his tally two deliveries later when Urvil Patel was caught brilliantly by Kwena Mphaka at the edge of the circle, forcing CSK to promote Ravichandran Ashwin up the order. The off-spinner played his role with a boundary and a six in his short-eight ball stay before holing out off Wanindu Hasaranga but Ayush Mhatre's blitzkrief og 43 in 20 deliveries at the other end helped them post a daunting powerplay score of 68/3. However, once the opener fell on the penultimate ball of the field restrictions and Ravindra Jadeja followed suit next over, the scoring rates took a dramatic hit. Dewald Brevis provided some relief with two boundaries and three maximums as he stitched together a vital 59-run stand with Impact Player Shivam Dube, who despite his effort of 39 never looked to be in rhythm. Nevertheless, the foundation was set for CSK for a grand finish, yet no finisher showed up to the fore as MS Dhoni's 16 runs at less than run-a-ball meant the franchise could only accumulate 28 runs across the last four overs and set a target of 188.
In response, Yashasvi Jaiswal took apart Khaleel Ahmed in the third over with three boundaries and a maximum despite the left-arm quick making the shiny new Kookaburra hop around and even though the southpaw succumbed soon after, the damage had been dealt. Sanju Samson and Vaibhav Suryavanshi, after a brief quiet phase picked up exactly where the young opener had left them enroute to a 98-run stand to completely take the game away from Chennai. By the time Sanju departed in the 14th over after a 31-ball 41, Suryavanshi had already brought up a 27-ball half-century and the team required a little over 50 to win off the final 40 deliveries. Shimron Hetmyer and Dhruv Jurel ensured there were no hiccups at the death this time around as the latter struck five sixes ina breathtaking 12-ball cameo of 31 to stay unbeaten and take the team home with nearly three overs to spare.
