The Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWF) said in a statement on Wednesday that the tainted weightlifters, who failed dope tests recently during the national camp, had purchased food supplements from outside.

An official statement released by the IWF, as reported by the Hindustan Times, said on Wednesday, “All three lifters also admitted during NADA’s first hearing as well as in the second hearing conducted on Monday that they had taken food supplements from outside the national coaching camp”.

Reports in the newspaper claim that Sahdev Yadav, vice-president of the IWF, said that the three lifters - Geeta Devi, Manpreet Kaur and Harkirat Kaur – gave in writing to the federation and National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) that they purchased supplements from a shop in Ludhiana.

The lifters have been provisionally suspended for anti-doping violations pending a future hearing.
