Galatasaray stunned Europe by signing Victor Osimhen for €75 million, a Turkish record. The Nigerian, earning €15 million plus €5 million in image rights under favorable taxes, chose Istanbul over higher-paying Saudi offers. Premier League clubs hesitated due to cost, taxes, injury risks, Africa Cup of Nations absence, and character doubts, despite Osimhen’s 37 goals in 41 games last season.

For the summer of 2025, Galatasaray made a sensational move by signing Victor Osimhen from Napoli for a record €75 million, a fee unprecedented in Turkish football. The Nigerian striker, who had excelled on loan at the club in 2024–25 with 37 goals in 41 matches, quickly became a fan favorite and central figure in the squad. Despite higher offers from Saudi Arabia, Osimhen chose Galatasaray due to Champions League football, passionate crowds at Rams Park, and a team built around him.

His salary of €15 million plus €5 million in image rights, combined with Türkiye’s favorable 20% top tax rate, made the deal financially viable. Premier League clubs, despite searching for proven strikers, notably did not pursue him. Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Newcastle all focused on younger or less established forwards, citing high transfer costs, gross wage requirements, potential AFCON absences, and injury concerns.

Some clubs also questioned his consistency and character, although Osimhen’s performances, including six goals in six career matches against Premier League teams, have silenced many critics. Galatasaray’s calculated gamble has enhanced their international profile, energized supporters, and demonstrated that Türkiye can attract elite talent. Osimhen’s on-field dynamism and off-field influence underline why this signing is both a sporting and strategic triumph for the club.
