Vilajoana criticised Joan Laporta and promised a La Masia focussed future.

As the race for Barcelona’s future presidency heats up Xavier Vilajoana has publicly backed the idea of signing a striker of Harry Kane’s calibre if La Masia cannot produce a suitable successor to Robert Lewandowski. With Lewandowski expected to leave on a free transfer when his contract expires next summer Barcelona will require a new centre forward by twenty twenty six.

Vilajoana emphasised that the club must prioritise youth development but added that external signings become essential when the academy lacks a ready made option. When asked specifically about Kane he stated that if a talent equal to him does not exist internally the club must look outward and sign one. Kane currently at Bayern Munich could be available for around fifty seven million pounds due to a release clause.

His numbers strengthen the argument with one hundred and nine goals and twenty nine assists in one hundred and fifteen appearances for Bayern including seventy six goals in seventy four Bundesliga games. Vilajoana also criticised current club president Joan Laporta accusing him of short term strategies, financial risk and lack of direction while promising a rebuild rooted in identity and long term planning. With Barcelona preparing for life after Lewandowski Kane stands out as a proven elite finisher and a realistic big name target.
