Manchester United are exploring a January move for Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes, valued at around forty four million pounds. This makes him a far cheaper alternative to Brighton’s Carlos Baleba, who is priced at roughly one hundred and four million pounds. With Casemiro nearing the end of his career, midfield reinforcements remain a priority for the club.

In the latest round of transfer reports, Manchester United have been linked with a January move for Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes, who has emerged as a significantly cheaper option compared to Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba. United were previously quoted a hefty £104 million for Baleba, while Gomes has been valued at around £44 million, creating a potential £60 million difference that could influence the club’s winter plans. Reports from Portugal indicate that Gomes is open to leaving Wolves, whose struggles in the Premier League may strengthen United’s bargaining position.

United’s midfield remains a priority as Casemiro approaches the late stages of his career, turning 34 in February. The club were priced out of moves for Baleba and Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher in the summer and are considering several alternatives. Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton and Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson are also on the radar after impressive campaigns, although each could cost close to £100 million and may only be available in the summer.

Baleba remains an option, yet his form this season has fluctuated amid transfer speculation, as admitted by Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler. With significant squad investment already made under Ruben Amorim, United now aim to strengthen their midfield smartly and cost effectively in the upcoming window.
