Fabrizio Romano revealed Manchester United have not yet opened talks for Sevilla’s Lucien Agoume, despite reports linking the £34.5m midfielder. United earlier targeted Brighton’s Carlos Baleba, but Brighton’s valuation makes a deal difficult. With Ruben Amorim seeking reinforcements beyond new signings Sesko, Mbeumo, and Cunha, United may still explore alternatives before the transfer window closes.

For the second summer running, Manchester United find themselves in the market for midfield reinforcements, with Fabrizio Romano offering the latest update on their pursuit. The transfer window has already seen United strengthen their attack with Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo, and Matheus Cunha, but Ruben Amorim’s side is still short of depth in midfield. Romano confirmed that after showing interest in Brighton’s Carlos Baleba, United have not yet opened talks with any other midfielder, though speculation continues around Sevilla’s Lucien Agoume.

Reports suggest the 22-year-old French midfielder, who has a £34.5 million release clause, is a target United could turn to. Agoume, known for his energy, mobility, and work rate, has impressed at Sevilla and is viewed as a player who could complement Amorim’s pressing system. However, Romano noted that there is no concrete movement yet, leaving the situation open in the coming days.

Brighton remain reluctant to sell Baleba, having already built a reputation for extracting high fees from player sales. With Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes starting against Arsenal, and youngsters like Kobbie Mainoo plus Manuel Ugarte on the bench, United do have options. Still, the sense is that a new signing could be needed to stabilise a midfield that struggled last season during a disappointing bottom-half finish.
