Real Madrid’s chances of landing Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate have grown as the Premier League champions near deals for Giovanni Leoni and Marc Guehi. With Konate in his final contract year and keen on a Madrid move, Liverpool may accept a $29 million offer rather than risk losing him on a free transfer next summer.

When the summer transfer window appeared to be winding down for Real Madrid, fresh reports have suggested that the club’s chances of signing Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate are rising. Liverpool are close to finalising deals for two centre-backs, 18-year-old Giovanni Leoni from Parma and Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi, who is in the final year of his contract. These moves have sparked speculation that Konate, also entering the last year of his Liverpool contract, could be on his way out.

According to AS Diario, the Frenchman has already agreed to join Los Blancos either this season or next, with his preference clear. Real Madrid are reportedly only willing to spend up to $29 million (€25 million) for the 26-year-old this summer, knowing they could secure him on a free via a pre-contract in January.

Liverpool face the decision of accepting Madrid’s offer or risking losing him for nothing, though competition from other clubs could influence the price. Signed from RB Leipzig in 2021, Konate has established himself as a key defender, but incoming signings suggest Liverpool may be preparing for his exit. A successful deal would give Madrid’s backline a significant boost ahead of the upcoming season.
