CPL | Twitter in splits as Usama Mir finds stars perfectly aligned after misfield leads to comical runout

Fielders rarely get rewarded for a misfield, and Usama Mir experienced that during the Caribbean Premier League 2025 game against Guyana Amazon Warriors. The Antigua and Barbuda Falcons leg-spinner accidentally ricocheted the ball onto the stumps to the horror of non-striker Hassan Khan.

‌Antigua and Barbuda Falcons qualified for the playoffs of the Caribbean Premier League 2025 with a four-wicket win over Guyana Amazon Warriors at Providence Stadium on Thursday. Pacer Jayden Seales ran through the Warriors’ top order to finish with impressive figures of 4/15, while leg-spinner Usama Mir spun a web around the home side’s middle and lower order to pick up 3/17.

The duo’s exploits meant that the Warriors were bowled out for 99 in the penultimate over, with the visitors going past the target in the final over, courtesy of opener Amir Jangoo’s unbeaten half-century. Mir had an excellent outing with the ball, but his stars were perfectly aligned even before he picked up his first wicket of the evening.

Just as the Warriors were looking to rebuild after being reduced to 26/3 early on, the Pakistan spinner accidentally became party to an unlikely dismissal. Shai Hope shuffled across to knock a good length ball around middle and leg stump towards Mir’s right, who moved across to stop the ball.

But he fumbled as the ball rubbed his hands before hitting his heel and going through. On a normal day, it would have been an easy single with the fielder being punished for the shoddy display. But it was a day when whatever Mir touched turned to gold.

The ball went on to hit the stumps as non-striker Hassan Khan shockingly realised what just turned out. He started for the single a bit too early and was caught short when the bails were dislodged and the stumps lit up.

Twitter was in splits as Mir laughed his heart out after getting his name on the scorecard without any effort of his.
