One art perhaps as old as sport itself is commentary, and yet the perfect balance between vicarious descriptions and tactical analysis remains elusive in the modern era. Dinesh Karthik certainly cracked the latter part on Friday as he acutely predicted Phoebe Litchfield's antics in Navi Mumbai.

Australia went ballistic after an early rain break following the dismissal of skipper Alyssa Healy in the Women's World Cup semi-final against India in Navi Mumbai as Phoebe Litchfield and Ellyse Perry took the attack to the Indian unit. On a beautiful batting surface, the young opener was particularly unabashed as she smoked three maximums and 17 boundaries to register the quickest ton in a World Cup knockout fixture, reaching the mark off just 77 deliveries. While she was stealing all the limelight in front of a sullen Indian crowd at the DY Patil Stadium, viewers back home had to suffer more doom courtesy of the commentator's tactical nous as the dagger shots came with equally apocalypitc warnings.

Litchfield had just brought up her century when Deepti Sharma took the ball in hand in the 27th over and the 22-year-old was given the strike on the second ball. She immediately danced down the tracks and airlifted the veteran spinner down the ground for a statement making six, garnering much praise from Ian Bishop and Dinesh Karthik in the commentary box. The latter pointed out how India had just managed the quietest four-over phase for 13 runs since the early stages, and an early six in the over would prompt Litchfield to undo the damage by targetting Deepti. Karthik added that he won't be surprised if a reverse sweep or switch hit was on the way, given Litchfield's inclination for tthe uncoventional. As it turned out, the former wicket-keeper batter had called the action to a T as Litchfield pre-emptively turned around in the crease with purpose just as Deepti was delivering the Kookaburra, before clearing her front leg and with one gigantic swipe sent the white rock lying over extra cover for a mammoth maximum.

A gaggle of chuckles emanated from the commentary box, as Karthik humbly acknowledged his prophecy with, "You could almost see that coming," but Twitterati made sure the RCB coach had his fair share of praise.
