AUS vs IND | Twitter in splits as ball plays hide and seek with tangled Rana and Sundar to cost India

The modern age of athleticism in cricket has made communication paramount in the field, with players often motivated to go the required lengths just to save a few extra runs. Harshit Rana and Washington Sundar exhibited what happens if there is a lack of it with a hilarious incident in Syndey.

Australia won their third toss on the trot in the series, at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Saturday, and for a change chose to bat first having already taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the ODI series. Even though they lost both openers Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh after they had got starts either side of the powerplay's end, Matthew Short and Matt Renshaw settled in nicely to guide the team to a healthy 113/2 by the end of the 20th over. The Men in Blue had been largely tidy with both bat and in the field, barring a missed run-out opportunity from Shubman Gill and an absurd mix-up in the 15th over, the latter replayed time and again for audiences at home for its sheer perplexity.

On the third ball of the 15th over, Marsh rocked back in his crease and pulled a slightly short delivery between square leg and midwicket for what looked an easy two runs. Both Harshit Rana and Washington Sundar came sprinting to stop the ball from reaching the boundary and were in time but just as Rana was about to make an attempt to crouch and gather the ball, he saw Sundar sliding in and stopped in his tracks. However, Sundar failed to gather the ball cleanly and only managed to flick it without much conviction before nearly sliding into his teammate. Rana managed to keep his balance and with Sundar still flopping around trying to avooid the ropes, Rana bent over him while trying to feel for the ball under Sundar's belly. By the time he succeeded, the ball had been in contact with the duo while Sundar's foot brushed the boundary cushioning, rendering their embarassing entanglement futile.

Twitterati could not stop laughing.
