‌Laura Wolvaardt and Tammy Beaumont had memorable outings in the Women’s Big Bash League 2025 as Adelaide Strikers beat Brisbane Heat by six wickets in Adelaide on Tuesday. Both openers scored half-centuries to give the home side a solid start to their chase of 170 and ensure that the visitors remained winless even after six matches in the current campaign.

After being put into bat at the Karen Rolton Oval, the Heat’s opener Lauren Winfield-Hill got the side to a quick start with a six and a four off Sophie Ecclestone in the second over. She hit two more boundaries in the next over from Darcie Brown as the visitors powered to 40/0 at the end of the four-over powerplay. Though fellow opener Charli Knott was dismissed in the sixth over, captain Jess Jonassen joined Winfield-Hill to take the innings forward. The pair added 41 runs for the second wicket as the Heat comfortably sat at 87/2 after 11 overs. But the scoring rate went down after Winfield-Hill’s departure, with the opener hitting six fours and a six during her 36-ball 47. However, Georgia Redmayne and Nadine de Klerk added 36 runs in the last 15 balls to take the side to a challenging total of 169/5 in their allotted 20 overs. The wicketkeeper-batter had six fours in her unbeaten knock of 36 off just 20 balls, while de Klerk applied the finishing touches with her nine-ball 25 knock. Meanwhile, the spin duo of Amanda-Jade Wellington and Ecclestone picked up 2/31 and 2/36, respectively, in their four-over spells for the home side.

In return, the Strikers got off to a storming start with Wolvaardt and Beaumont adding 92 runs for the opening wicket in the first 10 overs. The Proteas skipper hit 10 boundaries during her knock of 51 off 33 balls before being the first batter to depart. The England opener also followed suit for an identical score, two overs later, after hitting seven fours and a six. With Madeline Panna also departing cheaply in quick succession, the Strikers were left with a tricky chase of 58 off the remaining 41 deliveries. But Bridget Patterson smashed two fours in a 15-run penultimate over off captain Jonassen before scoring the required seven runs in the last over alongside partner Ellie Johnston. Her unbeaten cameo of 32 off 22 balls saw the side home in a tense finish as they reached 170/4 off th last ball. Left-arm seamer Lucy Hamilton was the pick among the Heat bowlers with a spell of 2/32 in four overs, while Jonassen and Knott had a wicket each.
