Fans expected Gill to return to the team for the ODI series, but that is now out of the cards. He was not named in the ODI series, as KL Rahul replaced him as a stand-in captain. Shubman Gill led the Indian team in the first Test at the Eden Gardens. While batting in the game, he suffered with a neck spasm on his third ball, and was eventually taken off the field. It was expected that Gill would return to play for the team, but he didn't come back and India by 30 runs.
It was also reported that Shubman Gill was in the hospital when the match was on its last day. He was discharged after spending a few days in the hospital, and his neck injury was visible to the fans also. As he continued to be a part of the team, that Gill will be traveling to Guwahati.

Gill is not a part of the ODI series against South Africa, as Dr Abhay Nene, with his injury, along with the BCCI medical officials, had advised him for the rest.
It should be noted that the schedule of Shubman Gill in the upcoming week has not been confirmed. There are reports that Gill will be travelling to Chandigarh before he goes to Bengaluru. But before that, he will be spending the majority of his time in Mumbai, where he recovers from his injury.
After the ODI series between South Africa and India comes to an end, both teams will go against each other in a five match T20I series. It will be intense to watch the young talents from both teams go against each other. But the availability of Shubman Gill in this series remains questionable, as some sources say that he is likely to miss the same.
