IND vs SA | Twitter stunned as Muthuswamy defies Pant's cheeky masterplan by dispatching Sundar with ease

Test cricket in the subcontinent has been a game of cat and mouse since time immemorial, with relatively docile yet sluggish tracks acting as the perfect host. Guwahati on Sunday was no different as the South Africans slowly but surely ran India ragged to frustrate stand-in skipper Rishabh Pant.

South Africa took complete control of the second Test through the first two sessions on Day 2 as they grew their overnight score of 247/6 to 428/7 by Lunch on Sunday. Senuran Muthusamy led the charge with a dominant maide ton, forming near-century stands with Kyle Verreyne and Marco Jansen in the process to put stand-in skipper Rishabh Pant under the pump. Leading in Tests for the first time in his career, the wicket-keeper batter looked to be out of ideas at times while the ones he had did not work out as he expected, much to his bowlers' chagrin.

The first telling sign of the Proteas takeover came in the 124th over, shortly after Jansen had announced his arrival with a no-look six off Ravindra Jadeja. Pant saw it as an opportunity to take quick wickets and when Washington Sundar came on to bowl in the next over, the captain was ready with instructions. Pant prompted his young spinner to tempt their counterparts into big shots, but a language barrier meant the two communicated in english. That left the door ajar for Muthusamy to soak up Pant's words as he advised Sundar to "let him hit" before the final ball of the over, and the experienced batter duly obliged by giving Pant what he wanted. Having managed 68 runs in 164 balls till the point, Muthusamy broke the shackles for the first time in his knock as he leant into Sundar's flighted full delivery, before slog sweeping it over midwicket for his first six of the game.

, even as Twitterati was thoroughly enthralled.
