Watching the Fab Four get back to the game has been a great moment for the fans. But such moments could even turn into a disaster, if the players are not able to do well in their comeback matches. And this has been the case for in the Fab four.

Joe Root recently made his comeback to international cricket after his last game in August. But he was eventually dismissed for a duck on his comeback, making another unsuccessful return for the Fab Four players. The last two months have not been good for the fans who used to admire the Fab Four over the last decade.

1. Virat Kohli's Comeback

Virat Kohli marked his comeback against Australia in the ODI series. India went on a tour of Australia, and Virat Kohli was a part of the ODI team. He played his last ODI match against New Zealand in the Champions Trophy 2025 final. That match was in March 2025, and he eventually from the Test format in May 2025.

Following this, fans had waited for Virat Kohli's return till October 2025. And finally on 19 October, Kohli marked his comeback in the game, with the first match being played at Perth. Virat Kohli was unable to do well on his comeback game, as for an eight ball duck against Mitchell Starc.

This was a historic comeback for Virat Kohli after being dismissed for a duck. He had registered his first ever duck in Australia, which also started the series of unsuccessful comebacks for the Fab four players. Still, Virat Kohli was able to finish the ODI series with a half-century in the last ODI.

2. Kane Williamson’s Comeback

Kane Williamson was next in line to make his comeback to the game after Virat Kohli. Although Kohli had his comeback spoiled, fans expected the same not to happen with Kane Williamson. New Zealand were going against England in an ODI series, with the first match being played

Kane Williamson had also played his last game against India in the Champions Trophy final. This meant that his comeback was also coming to the game after 7 months in the international format. England batted first in this game and just 223 runs in their innings.

And in return, fans expected Kane Williamson to power the chase. However, he got out for a golden duck in his comeback match, being dismissed by Brydon Carse, handing over his catch to Jos Buttler. Within 7-8 days, fans had watched two comebacks of the Fab Four players go in ducks.

3. Joe Root’s Comeback

Following this, it was now time for Joe Root to join the list of Fab Four players making their comeback to international cricket via duck. Joe Root was a part of the English team for the Ashes, but it should be noted that Ashes is now being played in Australia. This is also a region where even a single century.

He had last played for England in the Test format in the series against India. With the last match being at The Oval on 31st July, his next Test appearance came in The Ashes first Test, which started today on 21 November. This marked an appearance for Joe Root in the Test format on it for almost 4 months.

With England deciding to bat first in this game, fans had expected that Root would finally be able to bring up his much awaited ton in Australia. But even his comeback in the Test format was spoiled by Mitchell Starc. Starc was able to take the wicket of Joe Root for a duck, which made him the third player in the Fab Four to be dismissed for a duck on their comeback. His return was also similar to Kohli's return, as both were dismissed at Perth, and by Mitchell Starc.
