Chennai Super Kings is preparing itself for the IPL auction. The team is having a significant amount left to make them competitive in the same. But the question remains, who will be the top picks for the team in the next edition, considering their requirements after retention?

Chennai Super Kings will be entering the IPL 2026 auction with a good purse. For the next season, the team has already made some shocking releases. It is still unclear which player they will be targeting in the IPL auction, as the team remains eager to make the best line-up which could help them to

Amidst this, Mohammad Kaif might have hinted at the players for whom the team could go in the auction. These are surely some shocking names but they would be making a great addition to the team in the next season. They will be entering the IPL 2026 auction with a whopping total of 43.40 crore in purse.

1. Liam Livingstone

The first player which Chennai Super Kings could target in the auction is Liam Livingstone. He was a part of Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the last season, and the team even won the trophy. But he has been dropped from the team considering his latest form in the tournament.

Liam Livingstone in IPL:

  • Innings: 47
  • Runs: 1051
  • Batting Average: 26.27
  • 50s: 7
  • Wickets: 13
  • Bowling Average: 36.07

If the team gets Liam Livingstone to their line-up, it will bring in another all-rounder to them. Ravindra Jadeja is not a part of the team right now, as he has been traded to Mumbai Indians. And having Livingstone would be a likeable replacement.

2. David Miller

According to Mohammad Kaif, David Miller could also be a probable option for the team in the next auction. Coming down to bat in the middle order, Miller has the capability to give the best endings to the game with his strong hitting abilities. He has also been released by Lucknow Super Giants ahead of the auction.

David Miller in IPL:

  • Innings: 135
  • Not Out: 49
  • Runs: 3077
  • Average: 35.77
  • Strike Rate: 138.60
  • 100s: 1
  • 50s: 13

With Miller in the auction, it is clear that several teams will go for him. And with Chennai having among the highest purse, they could stand a chance to get Miller to their line-up. This will also help the team to get a strong left-handed finisher.

3. Abhinav Manohar

Abhinav Manohar is another player who could be on the radar of Chennai Super Kings. He has been a part of Sunrisers Hyderabad for the last few seasons. And this could have helped him to develop an aggressive striking ability, and also attract teams in the auction.

Abhinav Manohar in IPL:

  • Innings: 20
  • Not Out: 1
  • Runs: 292
  • Average: 15.36
  • Strike Rate: 124.25
  • 50s: 0

Although he is yet to score big in the IPL, the next season could be a turning point for him. Manohar has managed to keep his strike rate above 140 in the T20 format, which could help him to get a spot if CSK targets him in the auction. Coming down the order, he could help the team to score at a rapid pace.

4. Glenn Maxwell

Despite being one of the most experienced players in the IPL, Maxwell has been released once again. This time he has been released by Punjab Kings, as Kaif thinks he could be targeted by Chennai Super Kings. He is very similar to Liam Livingstone, but he stands tall as a right handed batsman for the team.

Glenn Maxwell in IPL:

  • Innings: 135
  • Runs: 2819
  • Batting Average: 23.88
  • 100s: 2
  • 50s: 21
  • Wickets: 41
  • Bowling Average: 34.46

However, there has been a major concern with Glenn Maxwell over the last two IPL seasons. His batting average had been in single digits, which could make CSK think twice before they go on to buy Maxwell in the next season.

5. Andre Russell

Another big name in the IPL auction is Andre Russell. He had been a part of Kolkata Knight Riders for more than 10 years. But even after his performances for the team being well throughout, he has been released by them for the very first time in the history of the IPL.

Andre Russell in IPL:

  • Innings: 115 (Batting) & 121 (Bowling)
  • Runs: 2651
  • Batting Average: 28.20
  • Strike Rate: 174.17
  • 50s: 12
  • Wickets: 123
  • Bowling Average: 23.27

This now opens up an opportunity for Chennai Super Kings to get Andre Russell to their line-up. It has been a long time since any West Indies all-rounder has played for the team, as Russell’s inclusion will be beneficial for their batting and bowling line-up both.
