IND vs SA | Twitter and Stubbs in disbelief as Jadeja produces beauty to leave batter’s defence in tatters

Ravindra Jadeja has always proved a handful on Indian wickets, and South Africa batter Tristan Stubbs was the latest casualty on the list during the first Test in Kolkata. The Indian all-rounder came up with a beauty to go past the Protean’s defence in the second essay at Eden Gardens on Saturday.

‌The first Test between India and South Africa at Eden Gardens in Kolkata moved on fast-forward mode with South Africa starting their second essay in the second session of day two. Earlier, after starting the day at 37/1, India were skittled out for 189 in 62.2 overs, with KL Rahul being the top run getter with a fighting knock of 39 in 119 balls. Off-spinner Simon Harmer and pacer Marco Jansen shone with the ball, picking up 4/30 and 3/35, respectively.

With 30 runs in deficit, the Proteas started on the wrong foot with Ravindra Jadeja running through the top order to reduce them to 40/4. However, captain Temba Bavuma and Tristan Stubbs calmed the nerves with their brief yet confident stand. Stubbs blocked all the way as he looked comfortable against the Indian spin attack on a fast-eroding wicket.

However, all it took was a jaffa from Jadeja to end Stubbs’ stay in the middle as the visitors slid to 60/5. The ever-accurate left-arm spinner bowled on a good length around middle stump with the pitch doing the rest.

Just as Stubb lined up to defend the turning cherry, he was beaten all ends up as the ball turned to hit the top of off stump. As the Indian players let out a celebratory roar, the batter could not believe his luck, immediately turning to wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant to enquire whether he had effected a stumping.

Pant pointed to the stumps before patting Stubbs back as he came to terms with what had just happened. But the shock remained on his face as he tried to understand how he missed the ball. Just as he started his walk back, he again enquired with the umpire on the mode of dismissal before continuing to the dressing room.

Twitter was in awe as Jadeja did Jadeja things to hasten the downfall of the visitors in their second essay.
