Batters often feel the nerves during the 90s, trying to reach the milestone at the earliest possible opportunity and Peter Handscomb was made to wait during the Sheffield Shield game against NSW. The Victoria batter almost lifted his bat before the umpire signalled leg byes to his frustration.

‌After electing to bat against New South Wales in Sheffield Shield at the Sydney Cricket Ground, Victoria ended the day at a healthy 340/7. The visitors were rescued by a timely century from Peter Handscomb, alongside fifties from Campbell Kellaway and wicketkeeper-batter Sam Harper. Meanwhile, Mitchell Starc was the home side’s most successful bowler with a spell of 4/91, with off-spinner Nathan Lyon chipping in with two wickets.

After being reduced to 106/4, the former Australian batter came up with a steady knock of 104 in 210 balls, which included 11 fours, to resurrect the visitors’ innings. But Handscomb was made to wait just as he thought he had reached the three-figure mark in the last ball of the 85th over.

Just as Starc bowled a short of a length delivery on the leg stump, the batter tried to flick it down to the fine leg fielder and started off fo the all-important run. With the ball touching the boundary cushion, the middle order batter eagerly turned back at the umpire as he almost started his celebration.

But to his disappointment, the umpire signalled it as leg byes to extend his nervous stay on 99 to the next over. But fortunately, he reached the milestone in the next over before being cleaned up by Lyon an over later.

The wait continues!
