Put into bat first at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Punjab Kings started shakily with Mustafizur Rahman dismissing in-form batter Priyansh Arya in the second over. But Josh Inglis’s cameo of 32 off 12 balls, which included three fours and two sixes, meant that PBKS finished the powerplay strongly at 60/2. Skipper Shreyas Iyer controlled the game beautifully during the middle phase bringing up his fifth half-century of IPL 2025 as he top-scored for the side with a 34-ball 53. All-rounder Marcus Stoinis came up with a final flourish smashing four sixes and three fours during his knock of 44 of just 16 balls to take PBKS past the 200-run mark as the side ended at 206/8 in their allotted 20 overs. For the Capitals, left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman was the most successful bowler on display with a spell of 3/33 in four overs while the spin duo of Vipraj Nigam and Kuldeep Yadav picked up two wickets apiece.
In return, DC’s stand-in skipper Faf du Plessis and KL Rahul got off to an excellent start bringing up the 50-run partnership in 30 balls. The duo scored eight fours and two sixes before Rahul was dismissed in the last over of powerplay and Capitals reached 61/1 after six overs. With Rahul and du Plessis back in the hut by the seventh over, Punjab were slowly finding their way back into the game. But Karun Nair, along with Sediqullah Atal first and then with Sameer Rizvi, consolidated the DC chase with valuable partnerships of 28 and 62, respectively. The visitors required 52 from the last five when Karun was dismissed for 44 off 27 balls in the last ball of the 15th over. Rizvi, however, continued in the same vein to bring up his first fifty in IPL as DC comfortably closed off the match with three balls to spare. With the win, DC ended their IPL 2025 campaign on a victorious note while Punjab missed the opportunity to go on top of the points table.
