ENG vs ZIM | Twitter and Ben Stokes in awe as Harry Brook pulls off stunning catch at slips

Slip fielding, in cricket, has always been a thankless job as it is the one of the most difficult positions to be in, especially for pacers. But Harry Brook made it look simple as pulled off an unbelievable catch to dismiss Wessly Madhevere during the England vs Zimbabwe one-off Test on Saturday.

After getting dismissed for 265 in reply to England’s gigantic 565/6d in the first innings, Zimbabwe were struggling to stay afloat in the one-off Test as England picked up two quick wickets to reduce the visitors from 129/2 to 142/4 in their second essay. But the fifth wicket pair of Wessly Madhevere and Sikandar Raza decided to fight against the odds with some aggressive and enterprising strokeplay.

The duo added 65 runs in just 69 balls to take Zimbabwe past the 200-run mark and raised hopes, among the Zimbabwe players and fans, of making England bat again for a win. Just as the England skipper brought himself on in the 48th over in search of that elusive wicket, Harry Brook stunned the gathering with his brilliance.

Stokes bowled a shorter delivery which took off from the surface with the steep bounce surprising Madhevere. The Zimbabwe batter fended off the awkward bounce and saw the ball take the outside edge. But Harry Brook took off like a dolphin from water to pull off an unbelievable catch. The single-handed effort saw him dive to his left and pull the ball out thin air with his outstretched right hand to break the crucial partnership that opened the gates for an innings win for the home side.

Ben Stokes was stunned with the effort as the bowler jogged towards Brook to congratulate him for the effort. Twitteratti were stunned in equal measure as they were quick to compare Stokes’ reaction to that of Stuart Broad’s when the current skipper pulled off a blinder to dismiss Adam Voges in the fourth Test of the 2015 Ashes series.

What a catch!

Can't believe this!

Really he just plucked it in air!

This will be remembered for long!

Agreed!
