Virat Kohli announced his decision to retire from Test cricket through his Instagram handle on Monday bringing an end to a glittering 14-year career in whites for India. Legends and cricket pundits quickly took to Twitter to congratulate the former Test captain on his wonderful career.

‌Former India captain Virat Kohli shocked the cricketing world as he announced his retirement from Test cricket on his Instagram handle on Monday. That ended a career spanning 14 years where he represented the country in 123 Tests and amassed 9230 runs at an average of 46.85.

With 30 centuries and 31 fifties, the 36-year-old was the fourth-highest run-getter for India in the five-day game and his seven double-hundreds were second to none in the country.

Kohli has led India in 68 Test matches between 2014 and 2022, the most by any player from the country, winning 40 of those and losing 17 with 11 ending in draws. He also has the highest win percentage of 58.82 among Indian captains who have led in a minimum of 10 Tests. The middle-order batter from Delhi was also at the helm of the team when India made it to the final of the inaugural World Test Championship final in 2021.

Having retired from T20Is along with Rohit Sharma after winning the T20 World Cup in 2024, Kohli once again chose to partner the Indian skipper in calling it a day in the longer format announcing his decision just five days after Rohit retired from Tests. With Twitter going on overdrive with his announcement, the legends and experts joined the wave in congratulating the master batter.
