Some deliveries in cricket are unforgettable for all the wrong reasons. One such delivery was bowled in the MLC Eliminator between San Francisco Unicorns and MI New York by Unicorns stand-in skipper and star batting all-rounder Matthew Short in the ninth over of the second innings.

‌The MLC Eliminator was another thrilling low-scoring match that went down to the last over. While it looked like the San Francisco Uniciorns had complete control of the game, the MI New York tail made sure they finished the game with three balls to spare, with Trent Boult and Nosthush Kenjige doing the final formalities. This meant Hassan Khan's four wickets and Matthew Short's three scalps with his spin bowling also went in vain, albeit the Unicorns skipper ensured his spell is not forgotten in a hurry with one of the most absurd deliveries bowled throughout the tournament.

Short stood at the top of his run-up to begin his third over with Michael Bracewell on guard and trundled in as usual from around the wicket to the southpaw. However, as he hopped and swung his arms at the crease, the Kookaburra went flying out of the back of his hand to bamboozle the batter. The cameras quickly panned to show the white rock landing bang in middle of a parallel pitch midway between the main deck and the square leg umpire, forcing the umpire to call a dead ball. Short could not help but chuckle in embarrasment before he gave his hands a good wipe and returned to business.

As it turned out, Short recovered remarkably to end up conceding just five in the over before returning later to bag the wicket of Monank Patel.
