IND vs ENG | Twitter erupts as Rohit signals his smarts as Arshdeep’s knuckleball trickery outwits on-song Ducket

The character of a leader is tested in times of adversity and pressure. When Ben Duckett seemed to go berserk against the Indian pace duo of Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh’s opening spell, the street smartness to flummox the batter with subtle slower ones worked in favur of India.

Despite losing the toss in the third ODI, Indian batters Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, and Virat Kohli ensured the Men in Blue got to a formidable score in the first innings. The former smashed a century followed by fifties from Iyer and Virat to propel India to 356 runs in 50 overs. In response, English openers Ben Duckett and Phil Salt offered a great start with the bat as the southpaw countered the new ball with four consecutive fours in the fifth over to set up a 60-run score in six overs before captain Rohit’s ploy paid Indian dividends.

As Duckett missed on a slower one on the last ball of the fifth over, Arshdeep continued feeding the batter with a couple of those in his next over. It took the left-arm pacer just a couple of deliveries to extract a top-edge off an intended slash that settled into the hand of Rohit Sharma at mid off. Duckett failed to read the knuckleball off Arshdeep’s hand, resulting in his downfall. Right after, the Indian captain gestured towards his mind as the series of slower ones finally got the better of the dangerman, leaving the Twitterverse abuzz.
